Much simpler than the zapping fly traps, this type uses a UVA lamp to attract flies to a replaceable sticky board. When they land on it they get stuck.
The most complicated part of this is the electronic ballast for the tube, which is the same sort of circuitry you'd find inside a compact fluorescent lamp.
Interesting startup circuit. Very minimalist.
This unit does have a weird design flaw. It has to be plugged into an extension or adaptor, since the case fouls the switch on most UK sockets, preventing it from being plugged in fully.
I specifically avoid using intrusive mid-run video adverts, which means I don't earn as much from my content as other YouTubers.

congrats on 900k
Can someone tell me why flies like landing on my sound system when I run it outdoors? Especially the bass bins 😂
You couldn't just use any fluorescent ballast? I have a 40w version that'll run just about anything I poke onto it, but why they didn't use les for this I don't know, making a product to throw out some tubes nobody would use any more 👀
I think I have the wrong video. I'm interested in a trap that catches sticky flies.
"(…)with a metal screwdriver, that's a wise move." xDDD
@bigclivedotcom can you advise some good quality Electronics Cheat Sheet Charts and where they can be purchased. Thanks in-advance.
IU have noticed on parts retailers, like Ali Express a LOT of sophisticated bobbins and coils to create high voltages where in the past huge transformers have been used.
Egads!…Fluorescents!!…in Canada , there is a serious attempt to get rid of them off the face of the earth!
I used to use glue strips in fly traps, but then I found a bunch of Trump Supporters stuck to it….Snicker!
Hi! I've got a beautiful board that I'd like you to have a look at and possibly reverse engineer. It's a module from one of the "for hire in town centre" scooters. Do you have a po box i can sent it too? Cheers
seem like a better design than the zappers, safer perhaps. interesting circuit design!!
There is also the sugar coated sticky fly traps, that work quite well. As the name suggests its just tape you pull out with a sugar coating and the flys are attracted to it and get well stuck. When full rip off tape and bin. Then pull out some more tap from holder. But probably a bit boring from a electronics point of view.
Dear BigClive, I wonder if you can add 2 wires from the ballast and add the electric shock in addition to the sticky tape.
