I don't think I've ever tasted such a strongly flavoured whisky as Laphroaig. It lives up to its reputation.

You either love it or hate it. Sorry, I cant stand "smokey/Peaty" whiskies. That just my opinion. Much prefer the paler Speyside ones.

all spirits are clear to start, they get the colour and flavour from the casks they are matured in, whisky its often port casks, so the "gunge" is really a concentrate for what the whisky vats were used for previously, thats what gives diff flavours to diff blends, Clive ur a Scot, you should know that. Also distilling any liquid will result in a clear end product, its like purifying it, oh dont let the tax man know uv re-distilled a spirit lol

That whiskey is the smokiest thing I've ever drunk.
I swear by god I felt the smell of the wisky when finished pouring it on the distiller.
