The circuitry in this unit is strange. It almost appears to be for diagnostic purposes, or maybe to add an air of sophistication. The PCB at the front could literally be removed and replaced by a single LED.
Although this unit is described as an ioniser, it's more of an ozone generator. There's definitely air ionisation involved, but it's immediately followed by an opposite polarity plate to create a distinct plasma discharge and strong breeze.
The discharge on the end of the sharp stainless steel spikes is very visible in a dimly lit room.
The unit produces enough ozone to be an irritant in a small space, but in a large house it could be viable for replenishing the active elements of the natural air that quickly dissipate in an indoor environment. (Normal outdoor air typically contains around 0.01 parts per million of ozone.)
There's a removable aroma-bead capsule in the base, and the unit is supplied with nauseating vanilla scented beads. It seems strange to do that with an ozone generator. It might be to mask the smell of ozone in its direct vicinity.
I'm pretty sure these units go back a long way, which might explain the slightly retro circuitry. They go under various brands with fairly full-on marketing. It's reassuring that they do specifically mention the ozone or "active oxygen" in their technical data, and even state an ozone output of 5mg an hour.
The style and construction is actually very good. They feel solid with a nice texture on the plastic surface. Internally, the stainless spike-plate, aluminium panel and potted high voltage module seem well designed.
I'm pro-ozone if used to refresh indoor air at very low levels. This unit is probably best suited to quite large areas. I'm not sure it would be wise to use it in a small bedroom.

Hi Clive the marking on the Ally plate could be the result of water jet cutting 🤔

I had a Mountain Breeze ionizer about 15 years ago that was removed in a burglary.
I liked the style and colour of the Mountain Breeze so I searched for it on Google who sent me on to Amazon.
The device turned out to be Puremate and Jeff had it in black only.
The colour and style don't suit my decor and it stinks of ozone. After about 3 months the odour is no longer offensive to me BUT my visitors complained to the local medical centre that the house "stinks of urine"!!!

Dunno if you will see this Clive but there is a industrial air ionizer
    Brand

    IWAVE
    Manufacturer Part Number
    4900-40

Meant to be used in up to a 6 ton air handler… eeesh

ozone is an ion of oxygen. Kinda splitting hairs with the ozone generation, ionization thing

Whats the benefit of having one of these?

I think there is something not mentioned in the video. Can you please check if instead of using the multimeter on DC you use it on AC if it shows voltage in front of the ionizer (ozoner). I suspect the high voltage is as well high frequency.

Ok. Got same one. So it does more bad or good? Or does nothing and ill junk it.

Big Clive, is there an ioniser currently on the market that you would recommend? I want to get some for my house, but there aren't many options on the market and I'm always wary about eBay / Ali stuff etc.

I thought ozone is supposed to be very bad, so why do they sell these ionizers – should they even be allowed? Do they actually do much? I mean some of them even make it obvious it produces ozone in the product title (like its a good thing?)

I have a pure mate "ionizer " in my motorhome/ house it really help to get rid of smells…

I have been testing many dry room negative ionizers for the past 6 months. I will be testing this model soon. With the grounding, it gets interesting. In Japan, they don’t use ground often, so how is it they make the best Ionizers then? So I mixed and matched adaptors in Ionizers (don’t do this) and got interesting results. Ion emission/density changes. And the quality of those ions too. Not all negative ions are of the same “species”. Anyway I will measure ozone emission, ion density, Voc reduction, no2 or byproduct creation. I haven’t posted much videos in my channel yet due to reading extensively. But if anyone has any questions on ionizers, let me know.

Also, thank you so much for your ionizer videos. I certainly learned a lot.

Thank you Clive, I have one of these for years, I do occasionally get a sore throat and hoarse voice now and then, I will turn it off and see how I feel!

Bought an air conditioner a few months ago. It used to make this annoying high-pitched noise whenever the ioniser was on. I've even seen the coronal discharge in one metallic part of it.

Lately though, I don't get that noise anymore. I don't see visible discharging either.

Could anyone here tell me if the ioniser is now faulty or if it's still possible that it still effectively ionises the air?

Clive i was planning on purchasing this very unit for a small bedroom with no window, you say it's not suitable & i trust your judgment, so with that in mind please could you suggest a suitable device for me to purchase as i am finding the marketing jargon a minefield to the point that i cannot navigate to an informed decision
