Does the + terminal/plate put out oxygen as the – terminal/plate puts out hydrogen? Kind of a volatile mix, open flame indeed! Perhaps the oxy is the ozone odor? Michael in Colorado.

Also from my experience (I have done it before) Oxygen alone makes the flame stronger Hydrogen alone is fuel gas. But if hydrogen and Oxygen are present in the same container and you fire near the water face then you will hear small explosions.
Dear Sir you can not do electrolysis with distilled water. If you want to create an electrolysis in distilled water, then you or me or how ever need to add salt or baking soda or accede exactly like the car battery is working.
