How is the electret capsule connected? I can't find any schematics online that wouldexplain how to wire the capsule to get the bias voltage from the TRRS jack. Everybody just says i need a third wire but i know i don't as manufactured mics obviously work without one.
Hey there BC, sounds like Elvis, naugh, but that does sound a lot better. Hmm, wonder what else I could rewire to make it work better now???????? LOL. Later BC, Tom.
The order of connections on TRRS jacks varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. After all, Apple couldn't possibly accept microphones designed for other brands of phones, right?
I'm having some very annoying issues with my car microphone. It's a mic coming out of a Bluetooth device I added on to my radio that has phone support. It barely pics up my voice. It's range is really low and I really need to shout at it in order for it to pic up. Do you know any way I could boost it? Iv'e seen some people using a small amp that requires power from a 5v usb. Please help oh master of electronics ! 😀 🙂
The mic you made is worse than the built in mic, no question.. It sounds like you are speaking down a cardboard tube. Lots of fake boomy sounding bass, Not good at all.
If you have poor quality playback gear, it may compensate with compression (that's the reason that some folks can hear more bass,.. it's compression of high frequencies and loss of clarity, -a smoothing of peaks , so it's a less nasty, but less accurate or less honest sound playback)
I used cheap headphones, in ear then open back, then a sony hifi. then I tried reference Grado headphones and a reference HiFi. (-Peachtree Nova 125, using ESS Sabre 9018 chips in the DAC. along with a REL R218 Subwoofer, Paradigm s2 signature reference speakers. Cables are fine silver plated 100% copper. Tesla4 from synergistic.) all set up in an acoustically balanced critical listening room.
All 3 mics are not that good at all, but the iRig is the least shitty sounding. FYI I think the hiss is your other gear interfering with the ipad mic… I get zero internal hiss. Might want to try unplugging lights and other things and then listening. Either that or get a replacement ipad. it shouldn't hiss like that at all.
the irig one for sure.. more natural and pleasant to listen to. cant exactly put my finger on it but it seems maybe less tinny? definitely prefer the irig.
Oh what a cool video. What mic are you using now?
iRig what's inside video please

Give me the name of this speaker and is it strong?
Nice hiss!

sounds ok to me..
Can I make one of my own and have the iPod speakers output sound and the mic record sound at the same time?
I think the one you made really dropped the high end down a bit. it was fairly bassy comparatively but you lost the higher end of the sound spectrum

Hi, Clive

Could you show how to make bluetooth devices or a usb to bluetooth adapter
There'll be no more of this DIY iPad stuff after Apple gets rid of the 3.5mm headphone socket on iPhone 7 and possibly the iPad.

maybe wire both mics in but opposite polarity for each
Are you Walter White?
Apple wired their inputs differently. Now all android devices have followed suit in order for all of the ipod ready auxillaries to work.
