When I saw this on eBay I immediately bought one to see if the chrome case was connected to the screw section of the lamp base. It is! They also do a white one that has a case that isn't directly connected to the mains....

The metal shell goes alive to stop people from trying to steal the light. You reach up and ZAP.
Frankly, I'm pretty sure an electric shock would improve my dancing. Not that that's a high bar to clear.
Rotating color light.. bag of pot.. fun for hours
Well you can also get shocked from the neutral if the lamp's plug isn't in firmly, with only the light itself as resistance there's still significant residual voltage, no?
"I have no great need for disco lights" 😀
Beats takeing mine appart:)
C O O L
hey Clive why don’t you add a capacitive dropper to that light to make it even more dangerous
I never knew that the chrome on plastic could have actual metal in it
I'm guessing the "XY" capacitor is neither class X nor class Y, being an electrolytic and all. Amusing brand name, though.
Contradicting history, "I have no great need for disco lights."…and yet you have so many! 😀
I had an old TV a long time ago, the ones with the live chassis. Now I didn't think the chassis was really live, turnout it did have some potential. I found this out when one of the buttons with a metal cover was faulty and you had to really press it in to make it work, so much that the metal cover just brushed against the chassis and gave you a zing.. lovely. I found out about another one when I took a feed from the speaker through some resistors to a PC sound card to record some TV theme tunes. Turns out that was at a slightly higher than expected potential as well. oops. Sorry soundblaster.
