I'm not really into politics, but on the 18th September 2014 Scotland will be holding a referendum on becoming an independent country again. This is NOT an anti-English thing. The sole driving force for regaining our independence from the UK is to escape the grasp of the London based Westminster government.
It's been a very divisive time with the "Yes" (for indpendence) side being a very positive thing, and the "No" (unionist) side being a very arrogant and nasty campaign of intimidation and threats.
To quote:- "Scots are not genetically programmed to make decisions for themselves." Uh-huh? I disagree with that statement!
Rather controversially the "No" (unionist) campaign has been backed forcefully by most of the tabloids and even the BBC with a constant barrage of negativity aimed against Scotland as a whole.
The Westminster government initially used the internal name "Project Fear" for their anti-independence campaign, and that pretty much sums up their output. They've not given ONE SINGLE positive reason to stay in the union.
I will be voting YES for independence. Because the Scots have always been "genetically programmed" to be creators, engineers and builders. So no matter what the London government does to try and punish us if people see above the bullying and vote for independence, we'll always be able to look after ourselves.

I know you usually steer clear of politics, even though you never hide your opinions on matters.
But it would be really interesting to have a follow up every now and then. What kind of a state the independence movement is in and what options does Scotland have.
It's one thing to read about it or hear it from politicians, but it'd also be nice to hear a regular Scotsman with a very pleasant voice to "ramble" about it, while he's sorting out his brothers' newly failed garden lights.

And with Brexit you got all the problems of Scottish Independence, without any of the benefits (of governing yourself).

I got banned on YouTube several times for airing my comments for Scottish independence. Being Welsh-born, I'd like to see my birth country have independence after 470 years of English rule.
I hope Scotland gets another chance and doesn't stuff it up this time.

As a Catalan myself I feel exactly the same about our Government in Madrid, so I subscribe the points you make, and I hope one day we can achieve the independence of our respective countries.

I randomly got recommended this video in 2020. I have no reason why, as I've not been researching Celtic independence. I was looking for ANT+ wirless technology. Seeing I'm here I will comment as a welshman.

I'm North Walian, so I'm in an extremely welsh area with strong support for welsh independence. Wales is a bit different to the other nations. We have a long border with England, some of our biggest cities (or only ones!) Are in England, eg Chester, liverpool and Shrewsbury, two thirds of the money spent here is raised in England and basically we are the poorest of all the nations. Apart from a few pockets in South Wales there is no industry here. That's another problem with Wales, its difficult to get from North to South population centres (we dont have central belt). All our Economy is A55 or M4 east to West not within Wales.

In respect to further independence I would worry what would happen we would just remove one corrupt (but effective) master for another more corrupt inept one. On top of that what would also happen would be a few powerful political families (in welsh 'the crachach') will just govern. There is allready a lot of anti cardiff sentiment in North Wales and if independence in wales was to happen North wales would just be left to rot by Cardiff. Also Cardiff is a long way from North Wales a London is a lot nearer (in travel time).

What North wales needs is independence from Cardiff. I appreciate Scotland is a different case but I'm just giving my view on Wales. It would be a very dangerous move in Wales. I'm not anti independence for wales but there can be a lot of anti English language feeling here.

Its such a shame that the referendum has not been done after the Brexit thing. I think Scotland would have left the UK, and would have been better off and not been socked up in to the Brexit shitholl.

Just want to say, basically Westminster cares only for London and the financial quarter. Anywhere outside the M25 doesn't matter.

Just the other day I came across an article about how many engineering marvels of the modern world were invented or designed by Scots. The answer is – damn near all of them. The notion that Scotland couldn't go it alone is ludicrous.
I'm from Budapest, where the first permanent bridge over the 400-meter wide Danube river was designed by Scottish architect Adam Tierney Clark. To this day, it is one of the city's famous landmarks (known as the Chain Bridge). This weekend the bridge is lit up in blue and white. Belated St. Andrew's Day greetings from Hungary! With a long history of malcontent, I believe most Hungarians support Scottish independence. I sure do.

If the people of scotland are so clever by default then why do they so easily get so influenced by the Project Fear Tv and papers this is not the dark ages people have a will of their own and can decide for themselves. It's always someone else's fault scotland sorry it won't wash had there been a taste for independence it would have happened. Perhaps if the snp had told people just what they were voting for it would have helped i'e The £? y/n a date on joining the eu? or not? the real state of the oil revenues borders y/n and just hat that would mean? none of this came over just a emotional retrick words like FEDOM THE HATED ENGLISH DISRESPECTED It's just not good enough is it? people need facts times and dates it's not much to ask for when you think just how big this decision is and the huge changes to people's lives on a day to day life . You will say i'm wrong about everything i have said here but the fact the scots voted to stay and looks the same for the 2nd time would seem to support it. I now believe that scotland should indeed go not because it's the right decision for them but because the uk could well do without them there has been to much bad feeling between us and i really can't see us ever being the same the snp have made that irreversible now.
