I was originally going to do a teardown on this, but the cramped circuitry and breathtakingly negligible safety tolerances ruled it out as a viable device from the start. I don't think that having a PCB gap of 0.25mm or 0.01" is really safe at all. Particularly when the gap between the two pads involved had a little line of flux impregnated with solder globs.
Such a small clearance between the mains circuitry and the USB connector itself is just appalling. It really poses a shock risk for anyone touching a device with exposed "grounded" metal plugged into a charger like this. The iPhone immediately comes to mind due to it's external metal antenna trim. Perhaps this explains the unfortunate demise of the Japanese air hostess who was electrocuted when she answered her phone.

You should have taken the transformer to bits on this – my money is on absolutely no isolation except the lacquer on the wires!
That is the funniest thing that I have ever heard! I was doing Circuit board layout before CAD and using black Tape on clear Acetate. To put high and low voltages so close on traces is absurd! I have a shitty Sandblaster from 20 years ago and the tag reads: "Made In Chian", they can't even proofread their manufacturing Tags!

have you ever searched on eBay for Really dodgy pink usb charger just try it ! it doesn't find anything per se ie it returns 0 results but does find a lot of related items ! very similar
looks just like one with 2 prongs on it but they fold down for portability. (US version) they have the same date of 2014 as this so I wonder. Has the same design of white and whatever color with the diagonal mix. and the USB port aimed up. Just eh run that tester on it and shorts out the moment I plug anything into it. ;O (CVS brand)
There's actually a book called "Poorly Made In China" which discusses the many reasons such dreadful things come to be.
