These power saving plugs have been around for a while. They possibly started life as a genuine filter plug for softening significant mains transients, but then found a new scam market being sold as power savers, often sold using fraudulent claims of reducing your home electricity bill by a significant amount. (They don't.)
Things have taken a slightly darker twist recently, with adverts involving pictures and video of young kids, with fabricated stories of how they invented this miracle power-saving device, but refused to be bought out by "big-oil" so that everyone could benefit from their technology.
When these adverts have appeared on platforms like Facebook they have inevitably resulted in a flurry of gushing comments from people who have become emotionally involved with the story of youth heroism and have bought several units to support them.
In reality these units are probably being drop shipped from Chinese warehouses, which will also happily supply their long established product to you if you search on eBay for "power saver". The going rate on eBay is around £5 shipped (about $7). If you buy from the rogue marketers they will mark that up significantly if you even get the products. (Facebook has a terrible history of marketing scams where people have been duped out of their hard earned money.)
As mentioned in the video, you can bring down your home energy bill dramatically by understanding that the most significant energy costs are heat sources, air conditioning and equipment that runs continuously. By adjusting the house temperature down slightly and wearing warmer clothes you can save a significant percentage of your heating bill. Tracking down draughts will reduce the amount you spend on heating or cooling the outside air, and even basic attic insulation has the same effect as wearing a hat. It keeps the heat in or out.
The very best REAL energy saving plug you can buy is a power monitor plug that shows you how much power appliances are actually using.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-

This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

Excellent!! I wouldn’t change a thing. Love the discussion
Open the blacl box "capacitor". There may be powder / sand / dust inside.
quick question then Clive, going off something you said to the effect that a capacitor would smooth things over if properly placed, would function as a filter. is there any truth that smoothing the energy flow/flux of the house would save energy? given how much time you devoted to the possibility, i have to assume that smoothing it will save a negligible amount of energy? if this thing did do what it says it does, how much would you think it could save you? pennies i'm guessing.
-still on the smoothing idea…couldn't you just plug in something like an APC UPS, some of them have massive capacitors in them(or batteries, same thing in this case i think)
I totally got scammed! How do we get our money back!!!!!
It really has nothing to do with people's opinions and feelings about this device. The concrete physics are those tiny wires running from those HUGE copper lugs. Those tiny wires cannot pass the amperage required to "power condition" a home. As long as there are those that will fall for the con, the con will go on! The 3uF cap has a 1000-ohm impedance at 50Hz, and an apparent current of 240mA. Just costing money…
My grandma bought a few of these. I tried to tell her it was a scam. She wasn't having it. One day, I went to her house and the whole house smelled like burning electronics. It was all 3 of these things melting. One had even caught on fire and completely melted the outside case. If I hadn't noticed what was happening, her house would've burned to thr ground.
Thanks for the truth. Thanks for the reverse engeering. I really enjoy it.
For those who really want to save a lot of electricity: The TEST Foundation published the article "Saving energy in everyday life – save 1,000 €." The greatest savings potential are energy-saving shower heads, up to 300 € p.a. at a cost of only 20 €.* Otherwise, LED lamps, window sealing strips, switchable power strips, energy-saving heating pumps, programmable thermostats, radiator reflective foils, and timers (e.g. to switch off routers at night) should be installed everywhere. In terms of cost, effort and savings, the most effective insulation measures are roof, cellar ceiling and roller shutter box insulation.
Thank you so very much for this information
There’s a horrific amount of fake accounts and scams on Facebook. It’s like Meta’s given up.
Having channels like these is great, now I don't have to kill myself by jamming random junk in sockets, I can let the professionals rip stuff apart for me!
The guy never gets to the point, he just wants to show how knowledgeable he is… right when you think he's about to actually tell how this thing works… he's goes pulls out a pink calculator and some plug thing and continues to ramble… 😅 I've wasted 8 min and still have no fucking clue what this thing does
