Well this was foolish, but I have no regrets. The sodastream machine did need a very thorough internal cleaning afterwards.
To carbonate the Marmite I dissolved a large spoonful in hot water and then chilled it to make it more receptive to carbonation. It took a lot of carbon dioxide, but didn't seem keep to hold onto it, so releasing the pressure was time consuming and messy.
But the results? Not gonna lie - I'd drink it again....

Mermaid. That yeasty treat that seems to be a very divisive thing. Some people love it, some people hate it. But what would happen if we carbonated it? Would everybody love it? If we carbonated it was one way to find out and that has taken a large spoonful of this and stick it into hot water and then once it's dissolved, chill it down so it's ready for carbonation and then stick it in the soda stream.
This should answer the question once and for all. So here's a SodaStream There is the Mermaid. Let's carbonate. I'm going for triple buffellation.
Oh, it's already frothing up. Uh, SodaStream don't recommend carbonating anything other than water in their units. And they definitely don't recommend carbonating Mermaids. It's taking quite a lot of carbon dioxide.
It's taking tons of carbon dioxide. That's very odd. slightly worrying. Hurry up in carbonate.
Oh no. Oh, there we go. That's one fartulation triple formulation coming up. Oh yeah, you know what? Oh, it smells really bad.
Uh right. Tell you what. I think this is not going to settle down very quickly. So I'm going to pause and I'll be back once it's settled down one moment, please.
Hmm. the Sodastream is going to require a deep clean after this one. It's turning out that it's a. well.
It's uh, it's just turning out everywhere. Yes, huge fizzy mess. It just doesn't want to stay carbonated. I Mean it took a lot of carbonation, but now it just kind of wants to come out.
All of it all right? Uh, this is actually just getting worse and worse as time goes on. Perhaps that's why uh SodaStream don't recommend. uh, Carbonating Mermaid. Although having said that, I've never read that in their instructions, right.
say what? this, uh, this huge mess is now ready to be poured. Is it going to behave well? when it's poured into the glass? It's promising. It's not promising. It's definitely fizzy.
It's fizzy. but what does it taste like? It's uh, I'm just getting some of the foam out the way. actually. I thought that was going to be terrible, but it's uh, possibly the first Savory fizzy drink I've had.
And you know what, it's not bad so it's very messy. I Don't recommend putting too much carbon dioxide into it, but if you can actually get it out, it's It's actually not too bad. Hmm. so uh, it's just as devices as it was before.
Some people love it and some people will hate it. So uh, yes, you can carbonate carbonate Marmite but it's not actually a great idea.
I hope you checked the expiry date on the bottle before doing this !!
Sodastream advise—
"Our bottles are designed to withstand the recurring pressure caused by carbonation. However, due to the nature of plastic and the stresses it undergoes, it is necessary to replace the bottles after a certain period of time. This is because the plastic can gradually degrade and deform, which may lead to cracks and potential safety hazards when carbonating,
"SodaStream has conducted extensive testing of our bottles to understand their life under standard and strenuous use. Therefore, bottles have an expiry date to ensure customer safety. To ensure the safety of our customers, we strongly recommend checking the expiration date on the bottle and purchasing new ones as soon as the previous ones expire."
Absolute legend lol thank you for your videos
Sometimes, your Sodastream needs a high colonic.
Youtube: "Mermaid that yeasty treat…"
I love the pride flag you have there 🙂
I did not realize you were a furry/zoophile.
I love Marmite, but not Marmite pop!
Zombie beer
Captain Clive… boldly taking us where no man has gone before… May you live long and prosper.
I had to stop and look up Marmite. I am in the US and was clueless about this item. Now that I know it is a yeast product, I understand the concept of this video. Geeze us Americans are sometimes amazingly uninformed!
that's just silly….
I love it!
I watch as I enjoy Marmite on toast.
How much carbon dioxide can you dissolve into pure ethanol or Everclear
Yoghurt could be interesting experiment.
how about trying tea or coffee
Thanks Big Clive. I hope everyone appreciates your devotion to science and the universal question of Will it Carbonate?
That was hilarious but the hour or more of cleanup… Cheers to you and a deep bow in your general direction.
Get some gravy carbonated. Imagine fizzy Bisto!
"Would you fancy a glass of freshly carbonated Marmite??"
"No, thanks, I think I'd rather go for the cow piss…"
