I discovered this fire lighting technique by accident when I ran out of fire lighters. I was looking for things to absorb the kerosene (called paraffin in the UK) and discovered that cookies (called biscuits in the UK) soak up a LOT of kerosene, stay rock-solid and burn for ages.
I call these Cookie Lighters because they're cookies and they light stuff. (It seemed logical.) Perfect for the preppers amongst you.

Does it matter on the type of cookie? Will regular sugar cookies work? I have a Pellet stove as my only source of heat and the fire starters are very expensive, so if I can soak a cookie with Kerosene that would be much cheaper than the expensive starters that I purchase. I love my pellet stove, it burns so cleanly that you can't see any smoke coming out of the chimney and they are ok to use during a burn ban if it is your only source of heat.

We have made fire starters by dripping melted wax onto balls of shredded paper from the office. Put the paper balls into paper egg cartons if you have them.

First time I've ever seen a coal stove. I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California and we use wood burning stoves…but I don't know if anywhere in the state we use coal. (I'm assuming that's coal)

being from I guess a "less developed" country, my grand parents started the wood burning stove with a relatively smaller bit of twig wrapped in newspaper, is there any advantage to this method with paraphin?

At 97p for a pack of firelighters, I do wonder if this is cheaper than just buying those. Great video. Definitely will keep this in mind.
