Many years ago I was visiting the Terminator T2-3D attraction at Universal Studios in Florida, and in one scene Arnie grabs a drone from the air and smashes it against a pillar. Aside from the drone looking suspiciously like a Danfoss commercial refrigeration fan in disguise, it stuck in my mind that self powered drones like that might actually happen one day.
They did. And here's the spookiest I've come across yet. It's a toy drone that you literally toss into the air and it then darts about randomly, stopping dead-still in the air occasionally and "scanning" the surroundings before moving off again. It can also detect objects to the sides and below it for avoidance purposes.
Note that it does need an ordinary room to work properly, as wall to wall shelving is a bit of a drone trap. (Useful knowledge if you're being hunted by an armed drone.)
Here's a generic eBay search link for them:-
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=smart+mini+drone&_sacat=0&_sop=15
Make sure you get the type with four propellers, as there are listings showing flying disco ball variants. Target price is around $12.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-

This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

The beard attack was hilarious…
This little device makes me want to watch Batteries Not Included again.
Hah. This was great ๐
Noooooo not the beard!!! >.<
Love the pink and teal screwdriver set! Where'd you find that? ๐ฎ
So fun running into these videos, even if fairly old, since I have a lesser capable one of these I got from Costco a few(?) years ago myself on a whim at only $15! It's the HOVER STARโข 2.0 Motion Controlled Stunt UFO Even found the manual online for easier reading. Rarely got the gestures to work well and the sensing near objects/walls, etc. almost always was a failure. I suspect as it would fly off so much faster than expected. Ceiling and floor sensor, surprisingly, did seem to work though. Mine had just a microUSB cable to charge it, no cable included so no circuitry there at least. "Some Day", I'll bring it to a field on a calm day and let it fly and see what happens/where it goes, how long it runs, etc. Hmmm, better put my name and phone number on it before THAT happens though. ๐
not the soup-catcher!
Did you try probing the links between the 2 unknown chips ? There is presumably either an I2C or SPI link running between them. The protocol might betray that it is just a re-packaged MPU6050 or something.
Would be interesting to up scale it
Those micro motors are interesting inside. The magnet is in the center of the armature.
Fitting punishment for a device that attacked Clive.
Ming the Merciless :p
