A look at the very simple circuitry in a solar powered LED lamp that has a detachable solar panel that is used to charge the lamp for later use.
The resistor measures around 5 ohms (marked 4.7) and the voltage drop across it varies from .6 to 1V approximately depending on the lithium cell's charge state. That gives a current of around 100 to 200mA through the 12 LEDs so typically about 15mA per LED.

I think we'll all be needing these this summer. 😕 Leave them out all day and bring them in at night.

Wondering if I could pick your accumulated brains?

I have a car battery jumper pack, which I'd like to use as an emergency power supply, during power cuts, to charge my mobile phone, and run my (USB) Windows tablet and (12v) Router.

The mains charger is rated at 500ma.

My question is, could I use one of those 10Watt, 12Volt, Solar Panel, Caravan/Boat/Car Battery Trickle Chargers, to recharge the jumper pack?

Wonder if it would be feasible to swap the battery for an 18650?

Surprised you don’t comment on the massive resistor. What is that thing? A watt or so?

I currently have a 940mah camera battery soldered to a 433MHZ receiver module, I don't know how long it will last between charges, but this one's been operating for over a week, and that's with the receivers output driving a white led.

I would like to get solar lighting in a few rooms in my home for emergency times. On main floor I can put solar panel in Windows but for basement rooms the 8 or 9ft wire won't be long enough to reach. between panel and light. Can I purchase "extension wire" with connections on ends to add to what theses lights come with, and does adding that wire reduce the power to the light?
    Thank you.
