This is an interesting LED lamp that creates the look of a coiled carbon filament style lamp with an end-lit side emitting fibre optic light guide. Thanks to Joshua for sending this to me. We don't have an IKEA here and the lamp wasn't available from their online store.

Doesn't full black resistor actually mean 0 ohms? Eg. it is either bridging a live connection (like a jump wire) or acts as a fuse.

us this bulb still usable nowadays for a low light while watching TV? or are there way better products available, for example with less energy consumption?

"Over-destroyed" is going into my lexicon right next to "percussive maintenance".

Come on, Clive, change out those LEDs to other colours! 😉

I have a Nittio LED lamp like this, but the base is "brass colour". I couldn't resist and took the lamp apart: one powersupply board and one big board with just two bright LEDs, which have a similar orange colour like the sodium street lamps. I took out the LEDs form mine, and modified other stuff into the globe: one yellow "christmas light" bulb and a 7 segment display permanently showing 150 (I can't explain why I chosen this). 😊 I reused the LED panel (with 4.5V supply) to light a small area outside near our gate.

Is there any way to run these off a 12v battery directly?

So my parents live in the netherland and I live in Mexico, would these actually function on 110V as well? I can´t really get these over here, but I really like them.

Can you do tear aparts of other IKEA products? Like their smart LEDs, gateway, and even zigbee remote? There's not much available on the Internet about them but these products seems interesting 🙂
    Thanks! 🙂

I love me a good ole Clive teardown. He makes everything sound so awesome that you want to go out and buy things…..like inappropriate amounts of random lights lol

The KT-TREE-RGB printed on the circuit board made me wonder what this would look like with RGB LEDs slowly cycling through the rainbow… I bet some of the colors would make the 'filament' look incredibly wrong !!!

remove the fillament and sand the globe and it is a nice light
