Teardown of a compact air freshener that plugs into your cars cigarette lighter socket and freshens the air with ozone and ions.
Or just lights up dull blue and does nothing.
The only reason I bought this was to see if I was lucky enough to get one of the bogus ones. The teardown would have been just as interesting if it had actually had a high voltage ion or ozone circuit in it.
Like all these bogus products, it wasn't even designed properly even as a bogus product. The circuit board is insulated from the case by luck, there's no fuse and the guts fit so badly that it's really hard to assemble again without squishing the LED sideways or having the negative stud on the side pop inside. And the blue LED is super-dim due to the use of an inappropriately high value resistor (26,000 ohm) meaning it runs at a fraction of a milliamp. Maybe it's supposed to emulate the dull glow of a corona discharge ozone generator.
However, all is not lost. I improved it so that it now makes the air minty-fresh.

LoL I bought something similar when I opened it up it has a negative ion generator… Have no idea what that is and since the plastic body of the charger is completely trashed (my fault I got impatient) now I just have the inside thingy with all the other stash of stuff I took apart.

Y try one of these and when transistor blow air in my car change after 2 seconds! 🙂

Clive, you should get some kind of P.O box or some kind, so we (including my self) can send you some cool gadgets,

I also own many laser pointers, including custom made ones, using diodes   (from old DVD RW burners) and my own driver to power them , ranging from 445nm (blue) to  635nm (Red) <- which is mostly found in DVD RW burners, and also blue ones from old PS3 drives. –
If you ever set one up, let us know. I'd love to send you some cool gadgets for your videos.

It's the same with those fuel/mileage increasing gadgets, you'd love to take those apart

I actually wasn't surprised that it was just an LED. But I did lol at the unconnected transistor. I wonder why they would go to the expense of putting a transistor in if its not doing anything.

You have ruined the placebo effect for everybody now, lol.

Classic, I can imagine the chinese electro-scammer in the design stage, "damn this isn't going to fool anybody… I know, stick on a random transistor in the spare board space, nobody understands transistors, perfect!"
