Total disassembly of an ASDA LED work light. (ASDA is a UK supermarket chain owned by Walmart.)
I was expecting this unit to be better quality than the typical eBay units with missing grounds and crappy LEDs. It is, but it has some intriguing design choices. Notably the discrete LED array and robust power supply that has emphasis on isolation between primary and secondary sides. It uses proper three core rubber flex and has an earth connection. The LED is a series array of 9 chips being run at 330mA so you could theoretically retrofit one of the 9 in series 10W LEDs (but not the 3x3 series parallel type.)
The LED array is mounted on a machined pedestal for good thermal coupling, which is nice.

Don't forget your spudger .. OR your towel!
Would you take to bits, A power
Inverter, 120 volt at least. Thank
BIG C..
The H05 isn't the part that indicates a rubber flex, it just indicates the category voltage (300/500V). Ordinary-duty PVC flex is designated H05VV-F (similar to North American SJT), with a lighter-duty variant called H03VV-F (roughly comparable to SVT, limited to 0.75mm² cores and intended only for smaller appliances); the VV refers to the use of PVC, both as the inner insulation and outer sheathing. An ordinary-duty rubber flex is called H05RR-F (comparable to SJ; used with some hot appliances e.g. electric frypans), and one with rubber inner insulators and a neoprene/polychloroprene outer sheath is H05RN-F; the heavy-duty version thereof is known as H07RN-F. (In Australia, incidentally, we also use heavy-duty PVC flex, which equates to H07VV-F.)
So, which is it? H05RR-F or H05RN-F?
Anyone else notice the first word Clive usually says in his videos is "this?"
did you just unscrew PH2 screws with a PZ2 driver?
Market is flooded with these lamps. So many different variants. And so many differant brands with various qualities from excellent to dubious. I got one with a single led 10w and its very bright. You can get ones with removable batteries, usb 1amp phone charger outlets. Ones with or without weather seals, and some that are wonkey Copies of copies. Literally every high street shop as its own version. I like to stick with single led versions myself with decent led . But there are some of these that have like 20leds and are worse than my single version. I got mine from city electrical so it's alright but got a clone on eBay and sent it back as it was like a tin copy and oooh so badly made
Clive, just subscribed and like your channel. Greetings from Ohio. The sound on your vids is always low, so low I have to turn the volume all the way up! Found your channel from Julian's so the difference is stark!! Anyway, thanks for the interesting vids!!
I was in Asda (Edinburgh) this morning and noticed that they seem to be getting ready for updating their selection of led bulbs. Some shelves were clear of stock and many lamps were on deep discount. I was quite tempted by their 18w (1500 lumens) lamps but they only had ES fitting ones left. They were discounted down from £15 to £3.75, quite a bargain at that price.
thanks
The big question is, how much did the light cost? Can't see it online anywhere?
"but I COULD be wrong…" Noooooooooo……..
"I regret THAT…" Nooooooooo…..
