This video is a bit rambling, but may be of interest to anyone who likes a beer or other alcoholic drink. I've held this video back for a bit because I found the situation that prompted it a bit uncomfortable. Basically someone with an alcohol addiction. But it was quite interesting to do the maths and see how the UK government charges "duty" (pleasure tax) on your weekend tipple.

Demi eg. 500ml bottle was best innovation for lunch. The older 375ml bottle was too little when you ate full lunch the wine always run out before you've eaten.

My rant is energy based. When cell respiration was not known people thought that food gives you as much energy than burning it did. So they measured in calory bombs various foodstuffs and made a table that told you how much energy you get. And of course alcohol was one of those. Now when biloigists found out that actually energy is produced in cell making (mostly) ATP, little by little those tables were corrected to give you the actual ATP figure except it has not been updated for alcohol. So before the update those tabels gave you wrong figures but they were comparable. So you'd see that fat & oils give about three times as much energy as sugars and sugars gave you more than alcohol. But now when alcohol's number is not converted to the ATP figure it "shows" that alcohol gives you more energy than glucose. Which is ridigilous as the yeast have taken energy out of glucose to produce the ethanol. But it still is used in media to show how alcohol fattens you. Which itself is BS. If you look true alcoholics they are thin because they forget to eat. The obese beer drinker gets obese because the beer gives them munches and it's pizza or kebab or what not, always after the night in pub.

Haha, my LIKE by Master Clive, was lost when I edited โ€œcounty to countryโ€.
For example, Spain โ€œrecommendsโ€ 40ml, whereas France is down to 20ml from 1Litre of wine per day โ€ฆ yup โ€ฆ 1L or 100-120ml alcohol ๐Ÿท

Depending on country, each medical authority indicates different โ€œallowedโ€ amounts. The UK is one of the worst, Spain, one of the highest.

The recommended limit for alcohol was indeed plucked from thin air. The limits vary wildly from country to country. Thing is, there is no such thing as a safe quantity of alcohol. Even the smallest amount will cause some damage. As far as I'm concerned, people should just be aware of their own limits. Understand how much you have to drink to feel adequately pissed and stop there.

Guy you helped put away the tray of cans for sounds like Frank Gallagher from Shameless by way of your impression

I can't imagine who you'd be referring to Clive.

I was at a gass station talking on my cell phone seen a dude walkout the store with a case of twisted (alcohol added) iced tea before I got off the phone the dudes girl friend through the empty bottles away and when in to the store and bought 2 more cases. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Wait, your standard shot is 25 ml? The standard is 40 ml where I'm from (you have to specifically ask for a "small shot" to get 20 ml). Does that mean all the people on TV ordering double shots are just drinking regular Czech shots?

Clearly, those with already compromised livers will NOT be able to drink as much per day as others without the compromised livers, all else being equal. That includes obese people whose livers have become 'fatty' and therefore less capable of filtering the blood.

Does the Tynwald raise taxes separate of the UK? Have you per unit pricing of alcohol at a mandatory minimum rate? Scotland has. England doesn't.
The day per unit pricing was introduced in Scotland, was the day Viagra came off prescription in England: May 1st last year (18). Prescriptions are free in Scotland. Boots in York were selling Viagra for 40 quid but you could double up your nip in a pub for a quid, which was quite frankly more useful anyway.
There's a road just outside Berwick where the border goes exactly up the middle. Heading S you are in England with its laws on drink and driving and heading N you are in Scotland where you can have a very sober erection.

This is really interesting! I've wondered these things but never bothered to go the maths. I doubt that guy would get through 18 cans without passing out though, well unless he was built like the hulk.

why don't they just write the amount of ethanol in millileters?

hey Ralfy, that's an interesting way of reverse engineering alcoholic beverages.

Wow you guys get ripped off as much as we do in Oz. Bastards charge a fortune in tax for alcohol and petrol. 1.75L of Jack Daniels in the US costs about $36… @ 40% abv… go figure
