A more detailed look at the colour section of a VL3000 light as used in professional show lighting.
It has eight motors, five are used to control rotating dichroic disks which have graduated mirror, cyan, yellow, magenta and CTO (correct to orange for matching to tungsten sources), a colour wheel with changeable dichroic filters for fixed saturated colours and a shutter system with two overlapping shutters with a motor each to allow instant light control and strobing effects..

I'll take this over taping together gel strings for scrollers, any day of the week, I don't care how reliable it is. Okay, that's a lie; I care a little.
What's the mirror for
I used to tour with a full High End compliment and the Cyberlight EX had a wildly cool method for color mixing… they used gradient dichroic glass like this but instead of being spinning discs they were this odd sort of deflated (American) football shape on armatures. The arms would move them in and out of the beam path and it provided an amazingly smooth color change… I'd love to see you tear one down (sadly I do know they are not cheap). Really great video tho, I love seeing other lighting tech !!!!
