You've probably seen me use the click-open terminals for making quick mains connections to stuff I'm testing, and while it's not an official use for these terminals it works fine for me. A few of you have asked what sort of terminals they are, so here's a quick overview of the different types of Wago terminals and how they are used.
The Wagobox is a really clever system that makes wiring easier, faster and less finger-intensive. Much better than the older style round fixed-terminal junction boxes. They're basically plastic enclosures with snap-shut lids, that have adjustable cable grips that are put under pressure when the lid is shut, compartments for holding the terminals and a space for the wiring itself.
One of the nicest features of these boxes is that all the wires can be the same length, and all the connections can be quickly and easily made outside the box before just slotting them in.
Again I'll state this is not an endorsed advert for them. I just really like the system.
Here's a link to the UK website of the Wagobox. https://www.connexbox.com/

@bigclive I'm in the USA will these wago 3 terminal 12 awg pass code here in the states? I do realize we're ass backwards to the rest of the world in how we do things here, but I just wanted to know if you knew one way ot the other? I'm a recently retired FEDEX , ASE certified auto/diesel master Mechanic. And (NOT) an electrician but doing some DIY work on my newly purchased home that was built in 1954

I find it very tight and fiddly to fit 2.5 squared multicore flex into them

Marvellous things. I used Wago terminals when I replaced a 110vac circular flouro lamp with an LED 240vac replacement. I was adapting my imported LUXO maglamp made for the American market for Australian use.

almost every light fixture at Walt Disney World has multiple of these inside the fixtures. I know for a fact these things are incredible for how easy they are to use

Earth sleeve, I feel like that should be a thing here in the states. I've found lots of live ground. It looks fiddly and a pain but worth it.

Oh my gosh! Why have I never seen these before? Absolutely amazing, tidy idea!

I use these with ferrules for stranded cables. The springs expand and contract with heat so never get any issues with lose connections. And the push terminals are maintenance free so you can hide them behind plaster/in ceilings.

Also as mentioned you can reuse even the push ins officially… But you're only supposed to use them for the same diameter it greater wire

Might be why they bin them… Earth cable being 1.5 you can't reuse one from a 2.5 on it. But very handy…

My question is that I presume that the clips are in tension while open so that if the housing degrades they fail to the closed, clamped position. The levers prize open the normally closed terminals.

Which is the box for the lighting system?

The Wago terminals are not suitable for use in damp or humid environments. If solid copper cable is used, it corrodes (verdigris) where the spring puts pressure on it. After a time, the cable core fractures… (especially if disturbed). But before then, the verdigris and the damp cause tracking/earth leakage problems.

Hi Clive great review again, but do you know if they do a box to take 6mm standard out of swa cable. Cheers again Steve
