This was filmed on a Moto G phone, so it'll sound a bit different from normal. I put a couple of thermocouples into the light I took apart in another video, and let it run for several hours. The temperature rise on the ballast and LED housing is actually very low. Just 20 degrees above ambient. The huge finned heatsink seems to do a good job of dissipating the heat from the LED.
Note that none of the light from the lensed LED assembly even hits the reflector. I'm not sure if it's there for dust or airflow reasons, or because people find it easier to switch to a high bay light that resembles traditional ones.

You'd love it in SW Florida atm… it's 35°C (95°F) with a dew point of 27°C (~80°F) outside, like someone threw a steaming flannel blanket over you hot… inside I keep it 24°C (~75°F) with AC and once the temperature dips into the low 60s F the heat comes on. Growing up in NYC I tolerated much colder weather without issue but after a few years down here your blood thins out as it were and cold is not welcome… not that it really gets that cold !!!
Is your house really 10C?
Thanks so much you always do a great job. I have learned so much from you vids.
Please make a video of those colored lamps in the background. it looks really awesome
Chinese Engineer: That's no reflector! That's a heat sink extension.
That highbay light will make a nice little sound when you bang your head on it. 🙂
That multi-coloured chandelier in the background is awesome! It would be nice to see a "gallery" of all the interesting lights you've made.
I wonder how high a wattage LED you could use in the same housing with the same driver ? If the lens/reflector was better do you think the light pattern would improve much?
P.S the sound on the video is fine. and yes the light in the background of the shot is cool.
I'm not sure how you can tolerate living in such a cold house. It's -20'C here in Canada (just yesterday it was -35'C with the wind chill factor), and when its that cold you will gladly pay a premium for heat. If my bedroom gets below 15'C I start feeling sick.
Any chance of a video about that multi-coloured chandelier I could see in the background. My wife spotted it first and it looks well nice. Did you make it yourself?
