In the past I've done a lot of Christmas lighting installation and maintenance, particularly in Glasgow's George Square. We used to have lights wrapped around the branches of the trees at the side of the square, but as the trees got bigger we decided to remove them as the strings of lights were damaging the bark of the trees.
Many of the strings were broken due to the long term installation and tree movement and growth, so I decided to try and salvage some of the sub-sections for fun.

Always good to see stuff survive past its first life… with a little time, patience and bad language… oh. look at the pretty lights!
And to think, the people of Scotland (and probably he rest of the UK) paid for those, and paid for them to be taken down and thrown away, so they're the people's salvaged LEDs… 😀
But in this case, finders keepers… 😛
I typically find a HUGE amount of there around the neighborhood right after christmas. People here are too lazy to remove them from christmas trees and toss tree with lights still on it in the trash pile at the curb..
I did get some commercial versions from the city a while back when I lived in Las Vegas along with some replacement LED elements for the Freemont Street Experience canopy.. I'll have to see if I still have those and maybe make a video about them.
Put them in a bathtub, fill with resin, remove the bathtub.
Exhibit it at the Rate Modern and achieve instant fame and/or fortune.
