these look very much like t10 w5w bulbs used in cars you could probably swap theses fairly easily EDIT: it does seem to be t10 but boy at 175 w per panel this is hungary
At The prince of wales cinema/ jaycee in liverpool the running sign used a punched paper roll running thru a studded mercury bath at mains voltage to run pygmy lamps. i was told there was also one in dublin somewhere it would still run in 1969
I used to have some of those that were a matrix type from a scoreboard. I work with Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing here in the states and we have a big LED scoreboard that's solar powered now thanks to me donating them a couple of 100 watt panels and installation.

They make LED bulbs to fit that socket. I'm using one on the license plate lamp on my car.
