I bought this expecting it to be similar to the dubious USB chargeable LED keyfob lights, but this unit actually seems to have proper protection for the lithium cell.

This post is ancient history, but I've found a couple of these bottle lights that don't work properly and am interested if they can be fixed or if they're even safe to be used.

When the light is plugged in it can be switched on and the red led shows, but when it's switched off the red light goes off as well and it doesn't seem to be charging. Certainly it doesn't work when unplugged.

I imagine that this means the battery has been overcharged and now the light only works when connected USB power. Is it safe to use like that? Is there anyway to revive the battery?

    Thanks. 🙂

I'm buying a "bottle" of crystal skull vodka just for one of these.

Replaced the LED in mine with an "ice cracked" slow color changing LED to great effect.

Are you sitting further away for this video? Your hands keep approaching the bottom of the video.
I do enjoy your videos and like playing 'I'm not 100% sure' bingo. 😀👍

Hi, what kind of magnifiers do you use to read chip numbers? I wonder, if they can see small details – eg. structure of the synthetic brush hairs. Will be internesting to see your video on this topic.

Clive, you could do with 2 strategically drilled holes in that desk, lining up with the bolt-holes in the vice to occasionally secure it, so that you free that left hand of yours when using force to penetrate these wierd and wonderful devices, directly below the camera 🙂

i bought a stun gun from china once and the overall quality didn't make me feel very comfortable charging it… so, i took it apart… there was a NiCd battery and the "charging circuit" was a bridge diode with a ceramic cap parallel to it. 220V dc straight to the batt.. :/ i replaced the batt with the li-ion cell and the charging circuit with a CC-CV li-ion charger.

Thanks Clive, I have a project in mind for these, but need to change the led to a different color, & now hopefully I can get mine apart without destroying the case!

I once asked the crazy russian hacker how he still had all his fingers? He assured me he was very safety conscious. You should discharge capacitors with your tongue, just to be safe. 😛

It won't be entertaining. I know we are all meant to be different but yet I don't understand people who take pleasure from other people's pain.
