It appears that the classic "health salts" were pre-dated by a simpler fruit-salt remedy. It's very simple since it doesn't use sugar or Epsom salts. It's just bicarbonate of soda and Citric acid. Latterly they seem to have themed it with fruit flavours for marketing purposes, but having tried it I really like the extreme fizz and clean taste.
Since it now seems to be only sold in places like India, here's how you can make your own. It's super simple, and you don't even need to pre-mix the ingredients.
I've also included my own version called Dr Clive's fabulous Emo-salts (For Goths) that simply nudges the ingredient percentages for convenience. (laziness) with a nudge towards a more pleasing citrus flavour.

Back in the skool-daze I made non-proportionate mixes like this, and a mate said it would be good for drinking the "rapids-ear". (rough translation of our iconic booze of number 013)

And 7 years on, I came back cos I got some bicarb for "rat control", and I already had citric acid for cleaningscaled up stuff with, so, naturally I had to make up some Emo with these ratios… 😛

Eno is an over-the-counter antacid brand produced by Haleon. Its main ingredients are sodium carbonate, Sodium bicarbonate and citric acid.

I have a lemon tree out the backyard, I might try diluting freshly squeezed lemon in some water and putting a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in that (little less, little more until the right ratio is found) and see how that goes 🙂

I like to clean the inside of my kettle with citric acid. Descale I should say. Boil then rinse. Cheap.

My father used to use Bromoseltzer to treat his dyspepsia fairly regularly when I was a kid. Upon learning from the label that the active ingredient was sodium citrate, I made my own by adding lemon juice from concentrate to dissolved baking soda. No need to add flavour that way.

Dr Clives innocuous refreshment for Emo's sounds okay, but, if you want to stay alluringly beautiful, do regard his comment about purchasing ingredients from reputable souces.
