A rather dangerous device used to fake water testing by unscrupulous door to door scammers pushing water filter systems. It simply rectifies the mains and passes DC current through water, causing rapid electrolysis that discolours the water strongly.
I'm guessing that the unit is demonstrated with distilled water in one glass masquerading as "filtered water". The unit has a single pole switch (on the neutral core of the flex) so that the metal rods will be live at rectified mains voltage even when switched off on the unit depending on how the plug is wired (polarised plug) or inserted (two pin plug). This unit is only safe to touch if fully unplugged.
In use the rods have full mains voltage between them, which could cause electrocution or burns if touched. Excellent.
If you know someone with one of these devices, then make sure they know that it is a serious electric shock hazard.
I don't recommend buying one of these, but if you feel the urge then the eBay keyword is "electrolyzer".

So it is only good for testing "dubious water"? 😉

Saved by the RCD, I suspect… Those people with no RCD – zap! How totally horrific! WTF!

Probablky your filter sucks, or it needs iner filter change ?

As dodgy as it is you didn't devaluate the results. You don't need a test just look at the crap left behind once you distil it.

Funny enough, a few sales scammers came to my house today with the scam and I was something doesn't add up here, then where I asked about prices and compared what is out in the market I knew it was all bullshit.

A friend of mine just got one of these. He tested tap water against spring water. The spring water just had a little yellow/orange tint. The tap water had all the green and black. We're testing different filtered water tomorrow.

He got fluoride in his water .. and if he don't have a fluoride filter.. guess what , they gonna look the same

in Europe and probably other countries some chlorite (natrum chlorite usually) is added to the muncipal water supply to guarantee that nothing biological can live in it. The tests done in Germany show that this kills people about 1 in million per year. The alternative of not doing that would kill probably many more. This shows that there are just some things modern society does that have lose-lose situation.

its a crude device but certainly shows you the shit they put in our water tap and bottled so has its purposes regardless of how dangerous it is and if your brainy enough to test your water you put inside your body your surely not stupid enough to put your hand in the water while its switched on

how is it quackery if the colour of the water changes when testing different kinds of water? if it was a scam then any kind of water would turn the same colour.

Pointless video I used one of these on and it does the trick. Just leave it in there long. Don't enhale the fumes. And don't touch the rod. There is so much crap in our tap water. I ended up getting it pretty pure after filtering the same pint of water 20 times. Electrolyse for about 10-20 mins between each filter. You'll eventually purify the water.
This video proved nothing apart from don't touch the rods when turned on

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gavin Lynas says:

I missed the part where it was proved to be quackery. Not all water turns brown. Some turn green and others black. Something is happening, some kind of reaction. I'd much rather drink the water with no colour change, distilled. But yes, not too safe at all. Perhaps all that Chinese writing on the sticker contains a warning if can read it 😏.

    I've tried it myself.
Interesting that tapwater really gets hot and dark and disgusting after electrolysis.
My reversed osmosis water mineralized keeps cool and just a bit yellowish. I agree the device is far from save.
What I would like to know is what makes the tapwater so hot and disgusting. Does anyone know?
