While browsing bangood's site I found these wide-beam lasers designed to create a visual neon-tube type of effect in the air. The green one is fine, but the red one is WAY off alignment.
It's interesting that the inline regulators appear to be simple linear current regulators and not switching ones, so they are best operated in the 3.6 to 4V region max.

Lasers fun and dangerous at the same time

That red one is a dog's dinner

I remember reading about that ruby rod laser, some time back in the 1960s! I was attracted to the idea of building one, just for the hell of it, but the rod alone would've cost me $100, and I didn't have that kind of money back then.

I surely hope you're planning to either return that red one or get some kind of partial or full refund for it. The state of the thing is simply not acceptable as far as I'm concerned, and they need to deal with issues like that. I ordered some little kits a while back that consisted of a board, some LEDs and other bits, and an LM3915. Well, the ones they sent me were all defective, not driving the two pins at one end of the chip, so in all of the units the first two LEDs never lit up. I finally ended up having to source some good LM3915 chips elsewhere, and after much back-and-forth, got a partial refund on that one.

One of the reasons why I'm a little reluctant to buy from China at this point in time. Except that there are some things that I'm looking for that I can't seem to find elsewhere. 🙁

You forgot to allow for the 1 to 3 mts error due to manual measurement.

Were you planning on doing a tare down of that new PNP laser headlight i seen a while back?

The red laser without its focusing tube on reminds me of the red gun from Jak 2

Those are not real lasers at all. If they were, the beam would not noticably diverge at all, even over a long distance, like BC said in the video itself.

Ah the LM38 and the d882 combo. Great for IR/RED/and DPSS green.

Love the history of lasers. My first laser was a helium-neon tube from Maplin for about £100. It produced a very nice red beam at 0.5mW. I later bought my brother a laser pointer pen for £50. Amazing that you can now get something that pumps out many times that power for a few pence! (Beam is not so tight though).

Clive, I was trying to work out who your ideal man would be and after serious consideration I have decided it would be …
The Six Million Dollar Man. My reasons for this is that he is good looking, horizontal refreshment would be incredible and once the conversation dried up you could reverse engineer him and check continuity via nipple clamps 😂
