If you put an RGB self colour changing LED into an ordinary solar light it tends to just stay red and not change colour. Here's why and how to make it work.

As at least one other person has already said the extra Diode ought to be a Schottky type Clive. We are throwing away brightness in our Decorative Solar Garden Lamp otherwise.

The diode runs out of the positive pin to the LED.
The capacitor crosses from Positive to Negative before the LED.
It is possible to run a 555 timer and a programmable 12F629 chip.
    I have accomplished it. 41-48 diode & 104 cap.
You may have to play around with inductors, I am using a 22uH
for these two projects since flashers take less toll on the cell.

Ceramic or Electrolytic capacitor please? Because other circuits I've seen use an electrolytic.

Hi Clive did you ever make a video showing you actually making this modification to a light ? would be nice to see the master at work showing us how its done. 🙂

I have always wanted solar powered garden lights or side walk lights but they just are not bright enough for my liking -so how would one go about modifying one to make it much brighter and still last for awhile and still get a decent charge up? That would be a Great video to make Clive Hope you see this post lol

I've been looking through web pages and videos to better understand solar and colour changing bulbs. This video is the one that cleared it up for me. Thank you so much.

I've been playing with the dollar store fairy lights(with the 2AA packs) and I was wondering what it would take to hook them up to cheap solar lights, like these.
