This power bank was sent to me by Peter when it was recalled and he was asked to dispose of it.
I thought it would be a good idea to explore it and try to work out why it had been recalled.
The machinist channels I referenced were:-

Steve Summers https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjrGHSAkAN0ac8aVejwPBvA
This Old Tony https://www.youtube.com/user/featony
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-

This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

I believe, the reason for the recall is the battery.
Last two years the market has been flooded with Li-Po batteries that, after few months of use, expands without a cause. Very likely this power bank has such a battery inside…
    Thanks X the video…

The 0829A I believe is a Chinese clone of a BQ2954. That SOP16 is a Lithium Ion Charge Management IC with switching controller.
Functionally, it manages charging (between slow and fast charge modes) while monitoring temperature, voltage and current. It has two bi-directional pins for LEDs to show status, but also programs the display mode, and if current sensing is done on the pos or neg of the battery.

Hi, watching this in 2023! What are the USB testers you used in this video, either them specifically or what would one search for to find them on Amazon, Newegg, or eBay?

I was cringing the whole time you were prying to get the battery itself out. Let out an audible sigh of relief. That was terrifying. Amazing thing to watch.

There were two failures on the Samsung side of things – one was caused by the metal contacts penetrating the dielectric causing a short circuit, the second was caused by the cell getting pinched in a particular spot
