I was hoping to make some videos on more complex stuff, but the things I had in mind are really needing to be dealt with properly at my usual bench so I can test them properly.
This light is nice though. It's from an independent pound shop (dollar store) in Glasgow (Scotland).

They've actually got a few nice gadgets including a slim work light.
The joy of pound shop stuff is that it can be stripped for components or customised.

The screw-in lamp styled diffuser is cute. This definitely looks hackable — with all that empty space, you could mod it to have a LiPo battery and charging, brightness control, things like that
If they made a 9v version that would be cool since I have a Lithium 9v battery.
As I recall, most of these 1w LED's want around 3.6-3.7v.
So if you put 3 NiMh batteries in there, it should be pretty fine.
However if you use 3 standard AA lead acid batteries that are like 1.5v each, I don't think that 1w LED would last very long.
Just in what you get inside it alone is worth it however. You are getting the aluminium mounting plate, the 1w led, the full board of other led's. Even if the thing blows itself, I think you can rebuilt it with a resistor and a better design easily, lots of free space inside to add a few things.
I know your Scottish but it's still a Torch. Good video though.
How about modify the torch even further, with the tubes flashing as they start up like a traditional fluorescent light fitting…

As much as I would love to visit and despite this virus lunacy, I don't believe I'll be heading to Glasgow anytime soon even if I desperately need the flashlight. We got wallyworld, horror fright and assorted other outlets that wouldn't require anything more than a few dollars of gas to acquire one. Arkansas is just a tad bit far from Glasgow.
4.5 volts? 3 volt max l.e.d? why does it not blow? perhaps good for short intervals. its a shame they dont give phone l.e.ds a voltage boost for camera flash to make it more effective for a split second
