A slightly messy and unplanned video showing the construction of the Department of Villainy Christmas lighting panel for the local town hall display.
It's based on an aluminium frame with a welded steel mesh attached to it, to allow easy attaching of various features including LED based linear (neon) strip, plastic forms for use with the same material and a back drop of LEDs to fill in the space.
It's designed to be stripped and re-used for different years/displays.
The "Department of Villainy" name is a spoof on the naming of official government departments.
Speeded up footage of me building the metal frame and attaching the mesh:-

Converting standard USB/battery powered "neon" shapes to LED for use in the panel.

Building last years controller at normal speed (1hr 24min) while answering questions:-

This year's build speeded up:-

The first version of the software for animating the frame and stars. It was to get a feel for what worked, and was then adjusted for the best visual effect.

Last year's panel in place:-

It has to be said Dec 25th maybe a wee bit late! 🙂
wow this is amazing! What an awesome project!
I'd love to see what Clive would do if he won a mega lottery and bought his own villain island. Visitor tickets would be sold out in milliseconds and you'd have to be put on a waiting list! 🙂
Love your videos, Clive! Been watching for four or five years now across a few accounts and your videos never fail to fascinate and entertain me. Please keep up the great work you do, and here's to 1mil subs in 2021! 🙂
Awesome!!!
Thanks for your videos Clive, it's been a tough year and your videos keep me entertained. Appreciate it, have a good new year!
Do I spy a pi 400 on the desk?
My Christmas is now complete
Would you do a how to video on floating light bulbs with the electromagnetism gadgetry? Really would like a how to video.
Thanks for all the gifts Santa!
Does anyone know why Clive used all male stars?
Nice to see some simple PICs and assembly in these days of arduinos and raspi’s with full OS’s running just to do really basic tasks.
Happy christmas and new year Clive 🙂
Merry Christmas Clive.
