This is a very simple LED based neon-style ornament.
The frame will accommodate standard 6mm wide LED neon strip, so it can be refitted with your choice of colour.
The most interesting thing about this ornament is the custom made LED strip with specific LED colours to suit the shape.
Here's the listing I bought this from, as a starter search.

Target price around £$€10-15.

I clicked "subscribe" right after the unremovable buttplug comment! Merci!

And the manufacturer use a 660nm LED which is the true red instead of the usual orangish 630nm LED!

Why would the manufacturer use a phosphor over blue for the red instead of the red LED chip which is more pure? It would make more sense if the phosphor was used for purple/pink or different shades of white, but RED??? It seems senseless to me.

In Texas, they stand it vertically, and sell it as a neon cactus.

Nice product – though how they could have made it even better was to have a 5V Micro USB (or USB type C) input for power, and have a decent Li-Ion battery in the base, so it can be made portable. That then completely negates the need for AAs.

Idea: Have not seen a commercial soft starter tear-down. Seen some super simple DIY's, but what about commercial units. Are commercial unit any better or worse?

I guess one could easily stuff one of those combination LiPo booster and charger boards and a battery in there, but then again I'm sure there's something similar already using USB and is cheaper than those booster boards themselves

I miss getting random ebay junk in the mail, seems like every package has been stuck presumably due to some toll changes, nothing I ordered between january and february has arrived and the crappy tracking numbers show that they all arrived to my country by march so who knows, but since july every non EU packet is going to have to be tolled no matter the value and the minimum service fee for that is going to be like 1,50€ which limits buying cheap crap by quite a bit

There were a whole series of lamps like these years ago and still available in places that were real neon. A portable vender of such neon setup a trailer selling them in my town a few years ago across from where I was living. At night the trailer lit up the whole intersection. Out of curiosity or boredom I visited and mentioned that I'm an electrician and ended up helping him setup his display and kinda made friends with the guy. He had some that were dead for various reasons and I of course took a look at them and honestly was a bit appalled at the absolute crap construction. Some had actually melted the contacts since is High Voltage and poor contacts they would arch within the base. After a short time I kind of said sorry and excused myself as I wanted no part of attempting to repair something so crappy and honestly a fire hazard. I told everyone I knew to not leave such lamps on without being in visual range. Oh and they had no safety of any kind. If the lamp was pulled out of the base (very similar type connection to what you show here) the base was still sending HV to the now slightly recessed although exposed contacts. If you see one of these that's actually Neon you should evaluate it you'll cringe. Blessings and keep up the great video's I always enjoy them.
