Once the magical Lucas formula smoke escapes the pixie's stop working!!

You've let the magic smoke out, it's never going to be the same.

What happens to a super capacitor when you put voltage the wrong way round?

Next time I see a resistor that looks like that. I will say, Clive must has been here.

I knew that resistor, his name was Bob. He had a hard life, coming from broken home. He struggled at school, often had his collar felt by the law, but he had a good heart. And just when he was turning his life around he fell into rough company and he literally burnt out. RIP, Bob.

It needs higher magnification during the burning bit and some slomo of that. Otherwise it is dull to watch 🙂

You let out the magic smoke. Do you know how hard it is to fix things once you let out the magic smoke, it's not like they sell magic smoke puncture repair kits.

At the current price of electricity thats probably about 45p worth in just a few seconds !

Would be great if you could somehow measure the resistance at the same time. So we could see how it changes.

I think you'd make a great choice for voice over of a computer in a space or sci fi movie.

I was driving on the highway recently. And suddenly that smell. That typical elecric fire smell of smouldering red hot components and fuming insulation. I quickly scanned my dash board, looked for smoke coming from the air vents … and then it dawned on me. I was driving behind a Tesla.

That's nothing! I can do that without even trying.

    Or intending to.

    Nobody’s made it yet?

    …okay, guess I will.

    RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

Was waiting for it to 'pop' completely at the end – did you reduce the current or had it actually burnt itself out?

Gratuitous destruction of an innocent, fresh out of the packet, component. 👍🤪

    Nice one 🙂
Any thoughts of using very high voltage to overload high value resistor so that it arcs over when flame ionizes surrounding air or it finally goes open circuit?
On second thoughts, that may encourage people to play with VERRRRY lethal voltages, so, maybe not a very good idea to circulate outside of patreons.

This reminds me of my first undergraduate physics lab with transistors, in which I inadvertently created a resistor burner. I went on to teach that lab, so there's hope for all of us.
