This light has a lovely modular construction that makes repairs and customisation very easy.
It uses standard luxeon star style LEDs with good heatsinking.
The power supply is a little shady in terms of isolation and the way it is sleeved and stuffed inside the ungrounded housing. It also uses a surface mount capacitor in a class Y situation. I'm not sure how well that is suited to the task as the capacitor is between the mains and low voltage side.
Searching eBay for LED star sconce light will pull up quite a lot of different listings including these.

This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

This concept gives me a world of ideas, such as increasing the number of LED modules around the unit, and programming them to project certain RGB colors and make effects.
Does anybody have a ebay search string for that utility knife it intrigues and I would like to look into?
Ilike HOPI ๐
Could be easily rewired to run on low voltage. Would definitely be safer than putting a heatshrinked mains supply in a metal case.
Hey Clive…if you see this can you advise what razor knife that is? Looks sweet….would love to hunt one down for myself. Thanks!
Wait , when did the wattmeter led's stop flickering on the IPad? It's been a while since i was last here
Those luxions look like they are RGB, they just connected one of the colors on each, might be even more customizable .
Hey Clive, I was wondering if you could order some MOSFET based "Schottky diode" "anti-irrigation" blocking circuits found on eBay for a test and schematic.
One moment please while I discharge this 400v capacitor with my finger ๐
Funny the only two instances ive seen those luxeon star lights was in ultrasaber light saber, and a cheap 6 volt flashlight which in its own was interesting how they dissipated heat in both
Kinda disappointed there wasn't any Kyber crystals in it. ๐
Great video Big Clive
leds dont make heat wtf you on about?
Would it be possible to adapt one of the modern Qualcomm QuickCharge USB PSUs that can put out 20V so that it puts out these 20V without having to talk to a "QuickCharge chip" so that it could drive this light, if one added a resistor to drop 2-3V?
I like the idea of this light with all warm white LEDs sitting flush on the ceiling, maybe even more than one of them in one room.
Nice little unit there. More expensive, but then again, you get what you pay for, and that looked good. I'd personally convert it to 12V DC supply, and those LEDs are super modular. Could have it as warm white, could have it as cool white, could have it multicolored, could have color changing ๐
