When I first saw this I mistakenly thought the plastic around the sign was just packaging, but then realised that the "packaging" actually WAS the sign.
It seemed a bit tacky, so I bought it so we could take a closer look at the construction.
On one hand it does seem a bit tacky, but on the other hand it makes it very easy to assemble the sign with pre-cut lengths of LED linear strip (The LED tape fires sideways into a diffuser and reflective channel to give a smooth linear glow on the front).
It also holds the linear strip absolutely rock-solid when it's pressed in and allows graphics and mounting holes to be added to the plastic.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-

This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

Did you find that led sign on neon factory website?
Looks good to me. Simplicity.
Where can I get one of these
It is clever. I can see some very artistic production in the future using this technique.
Interesting way to make enormous 7 segment displays.
Not a lighting purist, so I think it's quite neat.
I think it's clever from a cost-saving standpoint, but tacky in aesthetics; it looks too cheap and flimsy for my liking.
Quite neat…
Hi Clive! This is Clive! Err, that sign IS tacky! You can't compare that piece of plastic tat to a real beautiful neon sign! You just can't! Love your videos! According to Alexa, you're 70 miles away from Lancaster "As the crow flies". Have you ever been to Lancaster? It's very historic!
Tacky
Kinda tacky
Great video big Clive
Hi Clive. I've got some reels of RGB LED tape and I would like to try my hand at making some of these fake neon signs. What exactly are those soft, flexible diffusers called that are in the channels? I don't really know what keyword to type to find them. All the ones I find have aluminum housings.
"That's a bit tacky….I MUST HAVE IT!!!" 🙂
I've always enjoyed the idea of a custom neon sign for a personal project and this manufacturing technique looks like a feasible alternative!
I like it. Kind of fun what they did there. Personally I'm not sure a watermelon slice would be a coveted adornment to my walls but I really do like wacky lights so who knows? Cool how they did that.
I like this
Is that recycled plastic ? If yes : good idea
