This little PCB is a super-simple identification or marker light that has three 5050 RGB LEDs, three resistors and three little DIP switches.
It's intended purpose is to identify racing drones or other devices that may have to be differentiated, but it can also be used as a very simple fixed colour mood light or decoration.
Here's the ebay listing I bought it from:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400996498751

Iโ€™m building something like this for my windows98 retro pc case fans, by replacing the standard 5mm red leds with 4x5mm rgb ones then fitting 3 latching switches on the front of the case to power the leds of 3x 12cm fans. Iโ€™m using 5mm diffused leds as they mix the colours better than waterclear Lens types

Bought a few of these, used them to back light canvases. Better these days as 5v easer to power for my needs ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha I actually made this same kinda thing but with a single 10mm RGB LED running off an old 5v Nokia adapter :D.

Two of these might work nicely as customisable PC case lighting if I hook them up to a molex connector ๐Ÿ˜€

It's nice to keep in mind the current these draw, but compared to tens of amps being drawn by the motors on the kind of drone this was marketed for, it's really non-consequential.

@bigclivedotcom do you mind showing how to make a fairly simple circuit board that goes from 220vac to 12vdc that's good for LED strips, as i have a few projects in mind and don't really want to buy loads of the power supplies you find on amazon which can get quit costy

Being 12 Volts, this would work really well for a replacement backlight for a car stereo display. Or backlights for meters, car instruments etc. With the ability to select whatever color is desired.

In an indicator role the current drain is not efficient enough so it''d be better to have a version such that the LEDSs were being multiplexed… (switch on-off and a hi rate)… don't you agree?

Hi Clive, assuming this was dimmable (Or similar LED strips) what transformer should I get if I wanted to dim it at the 220ac side? I have dimming main sockets that work well with incandescent lamps, but I want to dim LED 12v strips instead…. thanks, P
