My all time favourite hackable lamp is back under a different brand. But there's a catch.... They've skimped on the LED count on the three watt one. Here's how to convert these lamps into ultra low power 24/7 ambient lights.

The little rectifier is rated at 0.8A and would get pretty hot if you ran it near that.
Yeah, I did mostly completely miss the resistors with the solder when I was trying to fumble inside the lamp housing. The dissipation of the resistors will be a miniscule 50mW each for the 10 LED lamp and a slightly higher 100mW each for the 5 LED lamp. That's a fraction of their power rating. I wonder what component would fail first if left on continuously for decades.
The Pifco lamps are available from Poundland in 3W and 5W ratings (get the 5W for mods) and in e27 screw base and B22 bayonet cap base. There may be a colour option, but I just saw warm white.

Did you leave the 1MOhm resistor (the one across the cap, that you removed) in the circuit on purpose?

An always dark wedding lense well allow you to look directly at the leds,I have found if you make a way for it to hover over them is the best that way you can still see what you are doing

Maybe if the manufactures made decent stuff which hasn't been designed to fail straight after the guarantee has run out..

Most LED Tv's burn out unless you specifically know to turn down the LED backlight brightness and turn off auto eco mode.
Try changing one of those LEDS with lead free.. Rant over. Lol
Pifco used to be a good company – they made some really good christmas lights in the 70's and 80's and various household gadgets …… im not sure if pifco is the same company now though ?
