The refreshing design of this solar light from Pound Stretcher is inspiring. It makes you realise that you can do so much more with a simple solar garden light.
From the way it sheds water to the nice little extra features, it seems like someone really wanted to create something different.
As usual with mass produced items it will benefit from a bit of extra waterproofing. That would include bridging the switch so it's on all the time (the switches are mainly for protecting the cell from over-discharge during shipping, and corrode easily), painting the PCB with a conformal coating like clear nail varnish and applying some vaseline to the battery terminals to exclude air and water from causing corrosion.
The real treasure of this light is that it makes you think outwith the normal concept of a solar light. You could create quite detailed illuminated structures to add appeal to your solar lighting. Especially when used indoors on a window sill.

That is a very good solar light the best I very seen. Ther are a lot of rubbish solar lights around that will stop working come November/December

I love how over there a AAA is a "big cell" for a solar light when some of ours have AAs and even chonky lithium cells.

Wow, so much to comment on.
First solar cell I've seen with a hole in it. Lots of design opportunities there.
The shell looks a lot like a champagne flute, far classier than the usual run of seemingly increasingly cheesy solar lights. The little "sprig" reminds me of the nose-tickling bubbles…
I couldn't tell where the optional component pads connected to. Any guess what they're for? Other component sizes, maybe to compensate for LEDs with different efficiencies?

You mean, high class "tat", Clive? I wonder if it was originally made for an upper crust outlet, like say, Waitrose. I have to say I'm impressed, and I actually like that one, it shows a different level of thinking beyond the usual bog standard tat!
