Fibre optic flowers with the traditional halogen lamp and motorised colour wheel used to be very common, but had lost popularity over the years. The newer version with an LED light source is likely to give them a new lease of life.
This was filmed while I was travelling, so it's even boomier than normal due to the boxy room I was in.

Been thinking about these lamps for the past year now. My mom has one and I want my own 😭 but I can’t find them anywhere

This video is epic ! I always wondered how these fiber optic lights make such unique lighting. Thanks!

Just wondering if you know where we might be able to buy these online? I'm really curious to see a modern version of this 80's classic 😀

Did this one have a spherical globe around it…?

I had one of these (halogen) lamps. I was always concerned with the fact that the metal power jack seemed to stick out of the metal dome case. It tended to spark a bit when you plugged the lead in as there was no power on/off switch.

Random question that you probably don't have time to respond to but anyone's advice is appropriated. I recently purchased a cheap orico 5 port usb charger, from what I can see online the charger it self seems to be decent quality and I am only charging cheaper devices with it, I have a nice anker one for my phone and such. It included a Mains lead that is about 3 feet long and has an internal resistance of 3 ohms, is a lead like this safe (I am in the US, so 120v ac if that matters)

OOH something that would make this even cooler is to put a color changing LED inside .. You would get all sorts of new colors mixed in with the film and the LED changing constantly and i bet it would hit a point of not using the same colors twice for quite a while before it eventually synced back up

family had one of the old square ones from 90's i guess. i remember it being taken apart when i was a kid for something and my finger got caught in the metal gears they used. think they used a wind up gear maybe.

    Hey Big Clive,
    I enjoy your video's.
My mother-in-law got the same Fiber optic flower display that you got there, so the disassembly was quite interesting.
On her one the LED has failed and is just flickering dimly or not at all. Not good!
What replacement LED bulb would you suggest?

    Kind Regards

    Jonathan

Hey Clive, if I was after a colour disc (similar to, but not necessarily identical to the one in this lamp) on fleabay… what the heck do I look for? At the moment all I'm finding is fancy colourful frisbees that light up at night! :-O Or are they too classy for us mere mortals to be allowed to have? 😛

+bigclivedotcom audio is a little too quiet, needs more gain.

Also, just curious, have you ever tried a collar mic before? It seems to be one of the more popular options for mics.

Your product reviews are excellent and entertaining. I have 36 years in the design and manufacture of related technologies. Of course, both quality and safety deteriorated as outsourcing increased. My key responsibilities included product safety, product liability and running the lab. I'm always interested in two characteristcs that I haven't seen included in your reviews: 1) does the item have any safety listings and; 2) what is the flammability of the thermoplastics? Thanks for your excellent videos. Greg
