If you've ever seen a film where electrical things like spaceship control panels and robots were blowing up and shooting out showers of sparks, then this is probably what was being used to create the effect. It's a simple pyrotechnic device that is designed to shoot out a shower of sparks when triggered.

I was 15 on the turn of the millennium there was a huge fireworks display not far from my house, those little things were laying all over the floor unbeknownst to me. I had one on my bedroom windowsill for about 8 months until I decided to put the two little wires onto a 9 volt battery while I was half distracted by a phone call and BANG! I still have the scar on my arm 20 years later.

You don't have a 1" paint brush as part of your standard workbench toolset?
Clive has every 9 year old boy's dream job.
A sales guy from where I worked was at the customer. They were looking at an Industrial electrical panel and they were pointing out what they needed using one of those wooden rulers with a brass strip along the side. They accidentally hit the panel. The two people closest the panel died instantly. The metal strip was vaporized and our sales guy inhaled the metal. Then it solidified back into metal in his lungs. He was in a full body cast from the burns for over 6 months. His lungs are damaged for life & he will never be the same again.
Now they tell our sales guys. Insist to the customer that they turn the equipment off before opening the panel. If they refuse, the sales guys are not allowed to enter the room.
If you want some electric matches for some fireworks, all you need is some Christmas light/fairy light bulbs, a bit of black powder and some super glue
I have so many rib tickling stories of stupidity and terror dealing with pyro 'stuff' in my years working in the theatre industry 😂
Wasn't the lamp with the dangerous LED that ruined the lampshade?
An electrolytic capacitor can be used as ignition too – just connect it in reverse polarity.
