A look at the insides of a modern smart meter with wireless modem. This meter was found amongst a pile of fly-tipped building materials. The company named on it was contacted but failed to respond, so that means we can take it to bits. I've covered the serial number as I usually do with shady things, to avoid the wrath of angry midgets.
While I'm inside I also investigate the conspiracy theories about:-
Government spy microphones. (Like Alexa for instance.)
Chemtrail brain control chemicals.
Spy cameras.
Brain irradiating 5G death waves.
The ability of the meter to be programmed to read apparent power and apply peak demand pricing.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-

This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

Manx Telecom provide worldwide data services obviously over other networks such as O2 in the UK. They were part of BT until it was spun off with BT Wireless into O2 and Telefonica sold it off and is currently owned by a private equity group. They operate this way because of low taxes on the Isle of Man so they are able to offer very low cost data services.

Yeah once every year or two a guy turns up, you give him £40 and nothing is said, I’ve paid about £250-£300 for electricity in the last 20 odd years.

Objects shouldn’t be transmitting from your home without consent, regardless of how much power it uses, they can’t expect you to pay for their broadcasts it’s against your human rights, on the fuse board, switch off the power going to the modem, and disconnect any modems connected to it, if it’s in a cupboard, insulate it with radio reflective material.

I had a problem with my smart meter, the electricity company was switching on my economy 7 at 1am but continued to change me peak rate until 1:30am, so for that half hour with a 3kw water heater element running at full I was being charged approximately an extra 38p per day, that's the difference between what it costs between peak rate and off-peak rate.
The cumulative cost meant that I was paying around £60 more for the five months between the meter being fitted and the time that I noticed the overcharging by the electricity company.
When I contacted the electricity company they remotely corrected the timing and returned the overcharge of £60.
The reason why I'm mentioning this is because other people could be overcharged in the same way and not be aware.
If the overcharging went on for a year and through the winter, together with the storage heater the overcharge would have been around £300!
If you multiple my case by millions of customers the electricity company could be fiddling a billion pounds a year from their customers.
The case against smart meters is that the electricity company can tinker with the timing an pricing.
If you are on economy 7 the time that the economy 7 is switched on by the electricity company should be synchronised to the price of off-peak pricing and in my case it wasn't rustling in me being "robbed."

What happens if i build a lead lined box around the whole meter, will it stop it communicating?

To their credit, unpleasant aspects of its functionality aside, this seems like a very well engineered device with top quality components.

Meters sooo essential that I’m still on my old one without any problems – not very essential.

Manx Telecom is also used for VIP SIMs in the UK (e.g. government ministers, civil service etc) because it's on the UK numbering plan (07624) but is roaming and not locked to one UK provider, instead choosing the strongest signal. Given how small the MT number space is (2xx xxx to 4xx xxx) you could probably wardial some very important people 🙂
