This thing didn't last long. It started with an impressive show before suddenly ceasing to emit ions while still making an active buzzing noise. This obviously required a bit of reverse engineering. The circuitry inside is partly clever and partly nonsensical.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-

This also keeps the channel independent of YouTube's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

It's a real shame… if they'd used a ZCS or ZVS (soft-switching) converter, it could have lasted a lifetime.

the timer is there to allow the ionizer module to cool down and recover, i found most potted items build up heat inside due to poor heatsinking as the resin traps the heat in letting it slowley build up! and this greatly reduces life expectency. adding a 555 is a fantastic and simple idea to solve this problem. the crackling sound you herd most likey damaged the voltage multiplier…

Since it stopped working and just made purring noises, did you consider that possibly the internals had be replaced with one of Schrรถdinger's cats? Of course when you opened it up, you collapsed the wave function and were left with dead electronics…. somehow….

Somehow when I'm coming down from a trip I always find myself on Big Clive videos. Dunno if that says something about me or Clive but either way I'm glad for it.

My favorite videos are you critiquing shitty eBay circuitry.
Most of it works, but the products that bounce on and off the line of acceptability are a riot to watch get dissected.
It's the expertise and the humor and general disposition you have that make it all work.

Because of this video, I bought a multitester and a copper plate just to test my ioniser if it has power.

I also have some ionisers on the way for my DIY ioniser. Thanks for making these videos!

oh, the 555 timer chip.. If I had a penny for every time I see one of those I be up to value of ten one-hundredths of a pound sterling..
lately been opening up -bug zappers and led-lamps.. not that different when it comes to components I was thinking of using a busted ccfl-bulb (transformer and all in base) for parts to my frankenstein zapper.
