I'd guess this product is sold under different brands around the world.
It's got a nice case that could work well for many projects, but the original effect is excruciatingly dire and very repetitive. I tested it with a bigger speaker hoping for some extra bass, but there's none. It's all screechy treble.
If you want to use this, then I'd suggest replacing the 51 ohm LED resistor with an 18 ohm one. That will give about 20mA per LED which will at least double the intensity.
Disconnecting the excruciatingly trebly speaker will allow the unit to be used for a repetitive lightning flicker effect without sound.
Swapping the LEDs for a colour of your choice and just hotwiring the battery pack to them via the switch and a 24 ohm (or higher) resistor will allow the unit to be used as a simple standalone spotlight.
The only good reason to buy this thing is the case with integrated battery pack and reflector.

That's every bit as useless as the "LED candle" I bought a while back that "flickered" with 2 levels of brightness in a 2 second loop. Chucked it after about 10 seconds. A new record. Thanks Jeff…

Overall it would be good to plug it to clock alarm, not only it wake you up but also make your whole day feel like crap as you will remember that awful sound…

Better to just use the money wasted on that and just build a tesla coil. For a few kilo$ one can be made that puts out 15-foot bolts. At least that would be a bit less disappointing and actuall 15-foot mini lightning will annoy several blocks worth of neighbors just like a real thunderstorm will (complete with power outage if the bolts hit the local 13.8kV power lines and short them to ground (several hundred to a few thousand amps, beefy secondary coil recommeded unless it's meant to be disposable).

On the JCB batteries – my experience in buying them from Home Bargains for years is that for their price, they're decent. They're not as high capacity as say Varta but there's a decent amount of juice in them in that you won't be changing their batteries as frequently compared to a lot of pound/budget shop batteries that come from obscure brands. Of course where possible try and use rechargeables but on some occasions only the likes of alkalines will do.

As a child I had one of those flashers with a camera flash type of lamp inside. It was very bright, and you could set the speed but that's it. I loved it, only fun side effect because it is a discharge lamp it caused emf spikes? It caused my electronic toys go haywire

I have some similar strobe lamp cases which I’ve designed my own boards for, they were plain strobe lights with the adjustable rate and ran off mains
