Full assembly of a typical eBay digital clock kit with case.
This is a nice kit to build. It's a very good example of circuitry that can be powered by a common 5V USB power supply, and even has a proper dedicated clock chip with battery backup.
There's a slight blip in the video where the power connector is soldered on, because I didn't realise that I'd reached a file size/video length limit and the camera stopped and restarted automatically.
Here's a general purpose link to find various similar clock kits on eBay:-

At night time it is way too bright, what size and where can I pop a resistor to bring the brightness down?? Great video as ever Clive *
i built that kit and it came out nice
I build these little kits for solder practice and settle my nerves before I work on really expensive stuff. I tend to give them to friends and customers as gifts. I have thought about building a display out of LED neon and use one of these to drive them for a nice wall art display.
Peeling the laser cut plastic paper is gay AF, I soak mine in some alcohol for a bit to have it peel off easy. Never had issues but obviously be careful soaking anything in that.
‘ Does it have autonomy ? Dude?🤪✍️
you amaze me with how you solder up all the pins! I have minimal experience doing electronics,
but I have done stained glass for many years. I might try a kit, just to give it a try to see if I am able.
Merlin's beard! As an American, to me British English speakers teach better and are more comprehensible than American English teachers. IMO.
Could not disagree more strongly about lead. The average amount of lead in the human body has dropped by >75% since the 1980s in the U.S. I imagine the trend is similar in Europe.
That is IMMENSELY important for brain development and prevention of illness.
I got me one of those! They work really nice!
Just starting out at the young age of 42 and looking to get one (or two) of these, would it work with a 4xAA to barrel jack connector battery holder?
On a side note I have always struggled with all things electrical/electronic partly I think due to my inability to conceptualise electricity flow, there are various analogies to water or exhaust pipe flow that work in SOME situations but not most. Have you done an explainer on this? I really can't get into my head what Volts, Watts, Amps, Ohms etc actually represent. If you have an explainer I'm struggling to find it and apologise, if not is there any chance of you making one? I find the way you explain things brilliant!
How you do all that with two hands
Had one of theses on hand, Clive, and though I'd do a build-along. It was a great experience, enjoyed the witty repartee and technical tidbits and, of course, the clock worked! Thanks for the video!
i know, i know… 5 years ago but just wanted to say: you are sooo right about standards in europe… annoying
Awesome digital thing ama jig, gotta see if I could somehow figure something similar for my 2 solar power controllers from the harbor freight kits that on both have lost the ability to completely give a accurate reading on the display quartz crystal meters? Especially for programming the amount regulating the power coming in from the panels to the deep cycle battery bank. Anywho not sure why this makes 3 that have crapped out now. It be nice to not have to check constantly with my meter anymore .
The only thing that stops me from electronic (which I love so much) is my inability to solder components. I have tremors and it makes it very difficult to keep steady. Good work Clive. Another great video!
