Teardown of a short fat little G9 base LED lamp. Typical capacitive dropper circuitry, but some devious (dubious) techniques to squeeze everything in a small area.

So most such led bulbs due to cost and size does not offer isolation fron mains?

    Hi Clive!
I share your fascination for LED technology and for years before the first LED lamp hit market wondered why we aren't using them in this fashion. I appreciate the teardown of the "capacitive dropper" circuitry. It fascinates me. Being in the US we can't be trusted with 220v, though it would make sense. To adapt the circuit to 110v would I simply need to half the 220nF cap?

That's what I thought at first, but they're much smaller than 4.8mm straw hat LEDs. But not as small as 3mm.

    Those are 190mil/4.8mm LEDs.
