It's amazing what you can get from China for about 2 dollars, just the aluminium heatsink of the light alone would cost more than 2 dollars if you had to buy it locally. But then you are also getting a neat little AC to DC converter, you also get some 1w led's mounted on a neat aluminium plate that has a circuit board type thing on the top that you can refuse with other led's, and you are getting the handy diffuser also.
I did however find a strange shop once in Australia that was only temporary, and it sold ridiculous stuff for only 2 dollars, huge 25w outdoor LED's, high quality indoor LED's, it sold these kits with all sorts of tools etc. I honestly don't know how that was possible, I think some kind of shop went bankrupt or something strange, either way they were in a hurry to get rid of everything, and the deals were even better than on ebay. Plus it wasn't ebay tier stuff if you know what I mean, it was legit tier stuff. Rest assured I bought a bunch of stuff.

I just like collecting the circuits and heatsinks and all sorts of things, then putting them in a drawer system, you then have enough materials for whatever project you need. Obviously making LED lights is the simple thing, but doing other things like making battery chargers, power banks, heaters, custom flashlights etc is always fun. Thick enamelled wire is also perfect for making artistic trees, that I sell at the market for quite a bit of money. It's amazing how people just throw certain things away, when there are so many valuable components inside a broken piece of electronics.

Why would you not connect the LEDs in parallel rather than series? In parallel, if one LED blows the rest can carry on.

Water could have gotten in through the inside of the wires.
One day I came home from work I heard water dripping inside the distribution cabinet where the mains coming in is distributed to all the apartments. The water came from the end of a thick electrical cable, from in between the individually insulated conductors. Turned out that on the top floor a drainage cock had been partially knocked open spraying water around, some of which ended up inside the cable somehow. Luckily nothing bad happened and everything dried up nicely.

Here's my two pennerth. I'd first suspect a leak from above, but one other possible source of is condensation that can form in or just above the rose if there's any airflow though the cable holes and the void above is very cold.

it's not water ingress. I have had 8 other lamps like this that have failed. they all had the brown residue on it. all in different socets. all were hanging down like in this fixture. they would get noticably dimmer over time and ran very hot, too hot. eventually they just would not turn on and fail.

You can acually get condensation running down your wires of the conduit is going through a cold attic som someting like that
