I bought another solar powered USB power bank on eBay to see how the capacity and circuitry compared to the previous one. Interestingly this one had a marked chip in it that even yielded a (Chinese) data sheet.

Notable things about this unit are the 2400mAh cell (supposed to be 5000mAh), 1A total output between two sockets and overcharge protection on the solar charging as well as the USB charging.

Were you able to measure the amount of solar power? I've heard that such a small panel is essentially useless
My mom bought one of these and it was absolutely shite. The solar panel only manages to push out a mere 4,8 Volt open-voltage, and, though only an April sun, a whopping short-circuit current of 30 mA.
And my mom was surprised it didn't charge the thing at all behind the living-room window… (which is the reason she got rid of it at some point, ending up on my bench to tear it apart)
I connected eight 4,8 Volt 48 mA solar cells all in parallel and that gets a nice 0,5 Amp current flowing into a 18650 cell during sunny conditions.
'Mine' has an HT4936S chip inside.
I was hoping you would have a video on one of these. Have the same one, but feel like if I take it apart I won't be able to get the rubber parts back on.
Edit… Mine has the hole for the LED under the rubber, appears to be pads on the circuit board for a LED… Now I gotta tear it apart
Nice brother 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi, can i ask you sir a question about this solar powerbank
Micro Henry?
4.35V? Maybe they mean a 4.5V bank? (3×1.5)
Is there an actual name for those flat LiPo batteries? And is there a difference between the 1S and 2S? I've also seen 18650's referred as 3S. What does that mean? An episode covering rechargeable batteries and rechargers perhaps?
have a look at the goodmans 8000mah power bank from b&m or other power banks from that store
If you think the lower battery capacity is bad, it can be even worse!
I bought something that looks exactly like this, but it has a FAKE solar cell. It is pretty well done, they have hidden a photoresistor in the middle of the ‘cell’ such that an indicator LED can respond to the incoming light. A closer look at the cell reveals it is just a texture printed on top of plastic, and shining a small flashlight makes it obvious that there is only one tiny spot on the panel that responds to light, the flashlight also makes it easier to see where the photoresistor is. From a rough capacity test, the battery seems similar to the one Clive shows, at most half of the advertised 5000mAh capacity. The eBay seller was not to blame, he was obviously unaware of this scam because he refunded the whole amount immediately after I notified him.
Maybe I'll send this thing to Clive for him to educate the general public…
Love this charger, but…… with LED light on the back side.
What's this is chip no
I got one of these charger not the one you have is a different style but it literally does the same thing as this one does. mine has a giant flashlight on the back of it not a little LED on the side of it. I also am thinking of buying one of these for my grandmother being she lives in Puerto Rico she could leave this sitting in the sunlight all day long charging and then at night plug her phone into it and then during the day put it right back out on the front porch where she gets the most amount of sun during the day. That's been would be great for her because she gets constant power outages in Puerto Rico all the time there and it's not good because she doesn't know how to drive anymore being she's 82 years old and with this all she would have to do a stick getting the sunshine all day long have it charged and by the time she's ready to go to sleep plenty and her phone and Bam there she goes a full phone in the morning. My device even has a full battery thing inside of it where is the phone is at 100% it'll cut off and will not produce a charge anymore so that is why I say my grandma can plug this in overnight to her phone and then it'll just shut off when the phone reaches 100. I don't know if that is the charger that is shutting down or if the phone is not accepting a charge anymore. But sometimes the charger will just shut off when it knows your device doesn't want to charge anymore. For example my phone I can put it into this and I'll get up to 100% and then cut right off. That is good because like I keep saying somebody could leave this plugged in for a long. Of time their phone can get to 100% they can forget about it and then hours later when their phone is full go back to it and see that it has shut off when you're wide has shut off and see the phone is at 100%these are also good for developing countries like Africa where they don't have electricity but they have cell phones because they need to get all their citizens cell phones and I think I heard that they do something when they give low-income families cell phones like they do over here so the family would have one phone for the entire house and they'd only be able to use that. I've heard of fathers and the man of the house going out to work in the city charging the phone remind you the phones only a flip phone or a candy bar phone not a smartphone so the man of the house the father of the husband son whoever would go out to town work all day find somewhere to plug their phone in while at the city and then when they go back out to their house their phone has a full 100% charged for them to be able to use the phone at night. What this all they would have to do is just stick it outside in hopes that nobody would steal it or at least hang out somewhere let it charge all day and there you go they have a fully charged phone. I swear by the chargers now I haven't been able to use mine in the sunlight yet but I do swear by these chargers and I would definitely get one soon. I do have to update mine I may just buy this one because I can clip on a carabiner and clip it to my backpack and walk around with her all day in the sun while I'm outside already my bike or doing outside activities.
American sanctions might save Lifes then…the Death Daleks!!!…lol
Haha! Oh god.. I bought this exact power bank from My local 'The Range' store. Guess I've bought crap..
