A rather neat lamp made by a dutch company called Calex and bought from John Lewis in the UK. It is a glass globe with 53 LEDs arranged across several layers of circuit boards on a slim support stem.
What makes these lamps remarkable is that the only way I can see they could have made them is to put the LED core in and then progressively open it out like a ship in a bottle. They couldn't have formed the glass around the structure without significant heat damage.
Much as I really WANT to check out the electronics in the base I can't open the lamp without damaging it, and since it was justifiably quite expensive at £15 (25 bucks) I'd rather keep it intact.
It's light output is a very bright pinkish white.

So, plug it in what the fuck are you waiting for…
LED assembly is slid into a tube which is inserted into the envelope. Tube is removed, lamps stay. A machine does it quick.
"At 15 pounds, that's not going to happen.. "
Oh how the times have changed. Lol
LED-ship in a bottle 🙂
could it be that the glass was initially like a funnel with the wide end open, they put the tree of LEDs in and then heat the wide end of the glass to crimp it closed, leaving that little nub at the end
15 bucks for one? are you kidding?! that is a steal! I paid like 30$ for the LED bulb I have in my kitchen a year ago…
wow brother its very pritty
Everybody clicked on the video to see it 'on'
I've added a video that shows the lamp lit, although it kinda swamped the camera a bit.
Ooh, very nice. Calex is a budget lamp manufacturer here in holland, I have had a few compact fluorescent lamps from them and I use one of their led lamps in my backyard. The reason I don't use them indoor is that I find the light to be kind of harsh compared to other LED bulbs.
So I'm very curious to see what kind of light these produce, this is the first time I see those.
power it up!
