Rather a nice light if I have to admit. Not sure how long the units are going to run at night with such a tiny solar cell on the end, especially if they are hung under branches. But the output is clearly intended to just be four small visual dots of light inside the coloured globes. The dots of light are from a short spiralled section of the common "copper wire" led string where surface mount LEDs are directly soldered across a pair of copper wires and then dipped in resin.

I do believe you can still get these (2019) in 'Yorkshire Trading Company' but only the plain white ones – I'll try to remember to take a look next week, when I'm in town.

Bit late to the party on this, but I'll have to see if Poundland still sell them. I can see a lot of Yuletide potential in these! 🙂

Also: Talking of Yule stuff, one of my mates bought a few sets of the cheap "red" LED strings (The same thing as in these bulbs, but completely bare) last December. We were both pretty sure the strings are all made of white LEDs, with coloured resin being used as the filter.
Wherever makes these would save a lot doing it that way, so it's fairly plausible. 🙂

There are two different kinds at the local poundland. The "Approved by Charlie Dimmock" ones which come packaged and "Wilson and Gregory" which just have a label attached. The former last longer in my (limited) tests but do get dimmer towards the end. The latter maintain a steadier light level but shut off more abruptly, they also have some nice colour changing ones but they're the first to extinguish.

An interesting point to make is that the lights that use the 4 pin chip seem to last a lot longer than the ones which use the blob, because if the PCB absorbs water (which is very common) it corrodes the bonds onto the blob which renders the light useless, while the ones with the 4 pin chip can withstand that sort of abuse much better.

I got a bunch of similar ones to these for a dollar each (50p ish) and they last all night, sticking them in a soft drink can makes for a good door light.

Got a similar one, with a single white LED inside. Swapped it for a yellow LED to match the bulb tint, ended up with about half an hour from a full charge. Disappointing. Have to play some more with them.
