I bought this ripple projector from Banggood to check out. It claims to be 10W but as many of these items turn out, it isn't by a long chalk.
That said, the effect is very good and rather annoyingly it outperforms an actual 10W professional unit!
The inside is clearly just a medley of random components from other products including the front lens of a disco lamp, the motor possibly from the same a very common 3W power supply and the case from a typical laser type unit.
These seem to be available in various fixed colours with a remote multicolour one available too.
Here's the Banggood page I bought this one from:-

And here's a typical ebay.com search for similar items:-

I got the black version of this … couldn't find this new cool blue one in England.

Mine arrived and it doesn't have the ability to go slower …. is there a way I can open it up and edit the slower setting to be much slower in range?

The 10w rating is supposed to be the LED power, not the mains draw. China has a habit of exadurating power specs.

I find it rsther sad that the DJ light is not such a good light compared to the small blue box. I know that the American DJ equipment is extremely expensive and would expect it to be better in most if not all ways compared to the small blue box. Thanks for showing us these 2. It's great to see inside them.

Would it be hard to switch out a brighter LED?

its like someone made that in their basement shop, pretty cool if you can cobble one together but unbelievable for a mass produced item. And how is it these companies can always over rate the specs, aren't there laws about such things?

Shock horror, the cheepo one bet the expensive one. It is such a shane the Chinese left off earth wires, especially the way they tend to build things. Have to say I do quite like the effect of the elcheepo light. The front lens just looks like it was thrown on from a distance though, which is a shame, but never mind, it is cheap enough and you will shortly have enough to start a disco lol. I'm sure you are very into disco's!

Got one of these. wish it had been 10w. mind you mine had a remote control and PSU and I did take it apart to see if i could upgrade the led but hmmmm

Solder a 200uf ish capacitor across the motor speed control pot so the motor gets a kick when you turn the unit on.
