There are a few different styles of these ripple projectors. I'll be uploading a video of a 5V version with a different remote in the near future, but lets take a look at this one first.

I had two devices like this one. Both of them died after two months. The IR receiver stopped to work on the first device then on the second device a bit later. Light started to very slowly change colours then I threw them away. Rubbish.

Oh, nice, could be very portable light, could use it with an USB powerbank ^^

I have just purchased one of these but the speed control is on the remote and not the unit. However, U have just complained to the ebay seller as the on/off button on the remote does not turn off the internal fan only the motor and LED. If the unit is cieling mounted like I have done with mine then this is a potential fire risk. Strangly when I pointed this out to the seller I got a reply of "Dont worry about it"!!?

I didn't really notice any other ventilation holes besides the ones the fan uses… what's the point then? What is the airflow of the casing?

Ooh, that one is really cheap and nasty inside compared to the one I have – which looks similar, but mine has a properly mounted circuit board and uses a different remote. Still a very cheap Bangood purchase though.

I think I would be safer of building something like this myself…

You should've ordered the one I sent you in my email. It comes with an external power supply (5V, 2A)
Motor control can be done by remote (3 settings) and when selecting white (all LEDs at once) it draws 10W. Yes, it's bright!
